NAIC “B” Committee Approves Actuarial Report on Agent/Broker Commission Decline

On June 7, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ (NAIC) Health and Managed Care “B” Committee approved a report from its Health Reform Actuarial Task Force on the impact the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act’s (PPACA) medical loss ratio (MLR) requirements have had on agent and broker compensation. Read More

Hearing on MLR and PPACA Job Loss to Reconvene

The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee hearing on PPACA’s MLR requirements and other regulations which took place on June 2 will reconvene on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. The hearing is entitled "PPACA’s Effects on Maintaining Health Coverage and Jobs: A Review of the Health Care Law’s Regulatory Burden." Read More

Legal Challenge to PPACA Continues to Advance

Last week, the highest profile legal challenge to PPACA, the lawsuit being brought by 26 states and the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), moved a little bit closer to the Supreme Court. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments in the case and reports from the courtroom indicated that the questioning was very tough for both sides, but the judges seemed to be a little more skeptical of the federal government’s arguments. Read More

Potential Senate Vote on Amendment to Halt PPACA Implementation This Week

As part of the Senate’s consideration of a bill (S. 782) to reauthorize the Economic Development Act, the Senate could vote on an amendment by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) this week that would halt implementation of PPACA until the courts resolve questions over the law’s constitutionality. Read More
