NAHU Submits Comments to Agencies on Summary of Benefits Requirements

Last week, NAHU submitted a comment letter to the Department of Labor, Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services and the Internal Revenue Services on the proposed rule on the Summary of Benefits and Coverage and the Uniform Glossary. The letter asks that the agencies exempt large employer and student health plan groups from the requirements, as they are not workable for that marketplace. Read More

Unlucky Thirteen—MLR Rule Causes Iowa to Lose Another Insurer

The American Enterprise Group announced last week to the Des Moines Register that it will be leaving the Iowa individual marketplace due to PPACA’s medical loss ratio requirements. AEG is the 13th carrier to exit all or part of the state’s individual market since June 2010, and its exit will cost at least 110 jobs. Read More

Final ACO Rule is Here

The long-awaited final rule for PPACA's delivery reform initiative—accountable care organizations (ACOs)—was released by the Obama administration last Thursday. The rule lays the groundwork for creating ACOs in Medicare and makes several changes to the proposed rule in an attempt to be more financially appealing to providers. Read More
