NAIC Discusses Resolution to Urge HHS Action on MLR

HHS National Essential Benefits Listening Tour Kicks Off With NAHU Member Participation

HHS officials began a nationwide road trip last Friday to gather public input on PPACA's essential benefit requirements for qualified health plans to be issued to individuals and small employers beginning January 1, 2014. Over the next few weeks they will stop at various HHS regional offices across the country, and NAHU has secured invitations for members to attend each session to provide the agent and broker perspective. Read More

Can A Federal Exchange Provide Subsidies?

One of the chief questions being posed by state lawmakers relative to the creation of a state versus federal exchange is, if a federal exchange is established in their state, will the individual subsidies be available? PPACA contains language that seems to imply that they will not, but HHS publicly claims otherwise. Read More

States Express Concern Over Exchange Partnership Process

Both the National Governors Association and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners sent letters this week to HHS regarding concerns they have over the proposed “partnership” program between the states and the federal government to operate health insurance exchanges. Read More

Small Business Tax Credit Finds Few Claimants

Today the Treasury’s Inspector General for Tax Administration released a report regarding the small business tax credit. The preliminary evidence is now in, and the results show that despite IRS efforts to inform 4.4 million taxpayers who could potentially qualify for the credit, the volume of claims for the credit has been extraordinarily low.  Read More
