Up, Up and Away!

On Tuesday, March 26, the Society of Actuaries released a study that indicates PPACA will cause insurance costs in the individual market to rise by an average of 32% next year. Actuaries are financial risk professionals who use statistics and economic theory to conduct long-range cost estimates for pension plans, insurance companies and government programs, which means that this study is giving the Obama Administration a big headache... Read More

SCOTUS Has Us on the Edge of Our Seats…Again

While the House and Senate may be out on Easter Recess, this time of year is anything but slow for the Supreme Court. Last Thursday, March 21, Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) put the “Broker Bill,” or as it is more formally known, the Access to Independent Health Insurance Advisors Act of 2013, in the Senate hopper just before Congress left town on Easter Recess. Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Mark Begich (D-AK) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) signed on as the original bipartisan co-sponsors... Read More

What We’re Reading

This week one half of your Washington Update team is on spring break and deliberately eschewing health policy reads for things like this.

But the other half of our Washington Update team, Laura Eldon, has been hard at work finding these picks for you...
