NAHU Weighs in on Surprise Billing with HELP Committee
NAHU was asked to provide stories about consumer experiences with surprise billing and the response to requests for stories was amazing. We received stories from both our Employer and Surprise Billing sub-groups that revealed a pattern around the country of excess charges due to out-of-network providers covering a wide range of services one would expect to be covered by an in-network hospital. You can find a copy of the letter here.

We noted the enormous amount of time agents and brokers spend on balance-billing activities on behalf of consumers. NAHU was also contacted by House Committee staff to discuss the issue and provide names of potential witnesses for a hearing on surprise billing. Expectations are that Congress will deliberate on drug-pricing issues first, then move to surprise billing later in the year.
