The flat glass sector lead growth for the year in terms of sales, up 10.4 percent, and operating income, up 49.4 percent. Company officials attribute the sector’s strong performance on a booming architectural and automotive market in Europe and in emerging countries. Increased demand for value-added products also boosted sales.
Geographically, total company sales dropped 14.7 percent in North America for 2007, but increased 16.6 percent in emerging countries and Asia, 3.2 percent in France, and 7.9 percent in other Western European countries, according to the release.
