Machine safeguarding

Machine operators can be injured by moving parts or equipment. According to The Hartford Insurance Company’s loss control department, 10 percent of all industrial accidents involve operators injured by production equipment. Half of these injuries result in some degree of permanent disability.

Appropriate guards or enclosures provide the most definitive strategy for protection. However, devices that control access—such as light curtains, two hand controls, trip cords, restraints—also are acceptable strategies when used selectively.

A well-crafted worker safety program should be an integral part of your risk management plan. To find out more about the coverages available to you through NGA’s sponsored insurance program, GlassInsure, contact the program administrator at 800/640-7601, or check out www.glassinsure.com.
