Windows for limited mobility

Wausau, Wis.-based Kolbe and Kolbe Millwork Co. developed wood-framed windows and doors with design options for people with limited mobility living in multifamily and single-family housing. The Ultra and Heritage Series features include motorized operators, longer crank handles, larger knobs or oversized lever locks to make casement windows easier to use, according to a company release. On double-hung windows, a crank handle allows the bottom sash to be operated with minimal effort in a seated position, according to the release. Garden-Aire sliding doors can be ordered with an aluminum sill ramp for a smooth transition between interior and exterior. Both exterior and interior doors are available in wide sizes to accommodate people with mobility aids. Window and door options include custom wood species, exterior colors and divided lites.
