Dodge Momentum Index Falls Again in September

The Dodge Momentum Index fell for the second month in a row in September. Compiled by Dodge Data & Analytics, the Momentum Index is a monthly measure of the first, or initial, report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year. September’s overall index showed a 2.6 decrease from August, with the commercial component following suit with a drop of 4.3 percent.
Despite the easing Index, Dodge analysts say that the measure is now capturing a market of more sustainable growth, in contrast to the unusually high growth earlier in the year.
