Perspective: Thoughts from an Industry Millennial
By Audrey Bailey, Franklin Window and Door

As a recent journalism graduate and classified millennial, I can tell you that entering the workforce is a difficult transition. Even though four years of college gave me a diploma and, consequently, a few decades of debt, what it did not teach me was how truly different the professional world would be.

During college, I was used to having courses where collective brainstorming, group projects and class discussions resulted in an assortment of diverse thoughts and ideas. Although distanced at times by technology, millennials have a thirst and need for collective effort. Whether through creating or conceptualizing, millennials are very much a team structured generation, built around and off the ideas of our peers. We’re used to structure, usually enforced by assignments or certain grade expectations. In the professional world, this isn’t so much the case.
