Huttig Consolidates Facilities
Huttig Building Products announced the consolidation and closing of distribution facilities in Greensburg, Penn., and Kansas City, Mo. The building products distributor will continue to service the Greensburg customer base from adjacent distribution facilities in Columbus, Ohio, and Lancaster, Penn., and will continue to service a significant portion of the Kansas City customer base from its distribution facility in Springfield, Mo.

Huttig officials expect about 50 employees will be affected by the change, although some employees will have the opportunity to transfer to the neighboring facilities. The company hopes to save about $2 million each year with the move.

“While these decisions are never easy, the actions were necessary to adjust the size of our infrastructure in light of the continued market challenges,” says Jon Vrabely, president and CEO of Huttig. “The major portion of our customers in these market areas will see no affect to our business relationship, as they will have uninterrupted service from our surrounding distribution facilities.”

The company will also consolidate its corporate office space in St. Louis, officials note.

Huttig, in its 122nd year of business, distributes millwork, building materials and wood products used principally in new residential construction and in home improvement, remodeling and repair work. Huttig has 39 distribution centers serving 45 states.
