NJBankers Hosts Delegation of Japanese Bankers

Twenty visitors from the Kanto Shinkin Bank Association visited NJBankers office on Monday. 

Chairman Kevin Cummings, president/CEO, Investors Bank; John E. McWeeney Jr., president/CEO, NJBankers and Jim Meredith, EVP/COO, NJBankers, provided an overview of the banking industry in New Jersey and as requested by the group, provided information on regulatory issues, channel strategies, lending strategies and the challenges and opportunities for community banks in New Jersey. CFPB Issues Two Proposed Rules Including New Mortgage Forms

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has proposed a rule for using new mortgage disclosure forms designed to help consumers make informed decisions when shopping for a mortgage.  In addition, the CFPB is proposing a rule to expand protections for “high-cost” mortgage loans.

Comments on both proposals are due by September 7, 2012. Read more

FDIC Cautions on Passing Deposit Insurance Assessment Fees to Customers

A number of IDIs are charging customers an "FDIC Fee," "FDIC Assessment," "FDIC Insurance Premium," "FDIC Insurance Charge," or similarly described fee for deposit insurance to compensate the IDI for some or all of its FDIC deposit insurance assessment costs.

The FDIC suggests that IDIs review their designation and identification of fees and ensure that those fees do not reveal confidential supervisory information or mislead customers.  Read more

The FDIC’s New York Regional Office is hosting a session on Monday, July 23, 2012 that will focus on the two notices of proposed rulemaking applicable to community banks. Read more

John E. McWeeney, Jr. Interviewed on NJToday Regarding Regulatory Trip to Washington

During the interview, McWeeney discussed the regulators that the delegation of 30 bankers met with and also explained the burdens of the Dodd-Frank Act on community banks in particular, as well as other regulatory issues.

He also discussed the regulators that the delegation of 30 bankers met with which included Director Richard Cordray of the CFPB, Federal Reserve Board Governor Daniel Tarullo, Jennifer Kelly, senior deputy comptroller for Mid-Size Community Bank Supervision and Dan Stipano, deputy chief counsel of the OCC, Acting FDIC Chairman Martin Gruenberg and representatives from the ABA and ICBA. NJBankers Announces Availability of Education Award for Member Institution Employees

The New Jersey Bankers Association is once again pleased to announce the availability of a Savings Bond award through its Education Award Program.  The program was established in 1998 to encourage the further education of employees of NJBankers member institutions in financial institution management; to promote the industry’s interests; and to provide career opportunities and support for employees of NJBankers members.

Eligibility requirements and application materials were mailed out last week to managing officers and Human Resources managers.  Employees interested in this program should apply by August 15, 2012.

Eberley Appointed Senior Deputy Director for Supervisory Examinations at FDIC

Doreen R. Eberley has been appointed to Senior Deputy Director for Supervisory Examinations in the Division of Risk Management Supervision effective September 4, 2012.  Currently serving as Regional Director of the New York office, in her new position she will be based in Washington, DC. Read more

Robert Hart Named to MPF Advisory Council

Robert Hart, senior vice president of residential lending at Manasquan Savings Bank, has been named to the MPF Advisory Council to represent the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York.  The 18 member council includes representatives from across the country who serve a three year term and meet quarterly.

Mortgage Partnership Finance was created in 1997 to help financial institutions fund loans for families across America to purchase new homes or lower the cost of their existing homes. To participate in MPF, a financial institution must be a member of a Federal Home Loan Bank. Read more

During June, Accuity, the publisher of the Directory, sent a Request for Information to member banks to begin the updating process for the 2013 edition.  To ensure updated information is provided in the new directory, members should return the completed RFI to Accuity no later than July 27, 2012.  Read more
