NJBankers Seeking Basel III Comments

On June 7, 2012, the Federal Reserve Board approved three proposals implementing the Basel III capital standards. The Basel III proposals could fundamentally change how banks calculate their regulatory capital requirements. The proposals would increase the minimum levels of required capital, narrow the definition of capital and increase the risk weight assets for various asset classes.

Given the potential impact of the proposed capital guidelines, NJBankers will be submitting a comment letter on the proposals. We would welcome any issues or concerns that you would like us to raise in our comment letter. Please send your comments to John McWeeney at jmcweeney@njbankers.com no later than August 17th. We also urge our member banks to submit their own comment letters directly and to be specific as to how the proposed capital guidelines will impact your institution.     Read more
