Basel III - Write to Your Regulator to Request an Extension of the Comment Period

The Basel III proposals would fundamentally change every aspect of how banks calculate their regulatory capital requirements. It's critical that the industry and individual institutions have proper time to analyze the impact of Basel III and report their concerns to the agencies. Bankers need to write to their regulators NOW requesting a 90 day extension of the comment period.   Read more

Nominations Open for Federal Home Loan Bank of New York Director Election

Deborah Scelzo Named SVP/Commercial Lending Officer at Columbia Bank

In her new role, Mrs. Scelzo will manage the bank’s Commercial and Industrial Lending Department.   She joined Columbia Bank in 1986 as a commercial credit analyst and was subsequently promoted to loan review analyst in 1988 and to director of loan review in 1991. Read more

Chase Community Giving Program to Provide $5 Million in Grants

Nearly 30,000 eligible charities have been nominated to participate in the fifth installment of the Chase Community Giving program.  Voting begins on September 6th, and when it ends on September 19th, 196 local charities will share in $5 million in grants from Chase.  In addition, eligible, nominated charities that accept their nomination by August 30th will share equally in $2.5 million in additional grants.   Read more

August 15 is Deadline to Apply for NJBankers Education Award

The New Jersey Bankers Association is once again pleased to announce the availability of a Savings Bond award through its Education Award Program.  The program was established in 1998 to encourage the further education of employees of NJBankers member institutions in financial institution management; to promote the industry’s interests; and to provide career opportunities and support for employees of NJBankers members.

Eligibility requirements and application materials were mailed out to managing officers and Human Resources managers.  Employees interested in this program should apply by August 15, 2012.     Read more

Boardwalk Race Against Hunger

Once again, NJBankers, in conjunction with the Jersey Shore Runners Club, is co-sponsoring the Boardwalk Race Against Hunger.  The race will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 in Asbury Park.  Proceeds from the race will benefit The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.  Last year we raised  $8,000 – this year let’s make it $12,000.  The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties has played an important role in providing much needed food to many during the current economic downturn.   Read more

NJBankers is currently accepting Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from those Associate Member firms dealing with Internal Audit Outsourcing. Ocean City Home Bank Hosts Walk for the Wounded September 29th

Over the past three years the Walk for the Wounded event, sponsored by Ocean City Home Bank, has raised more than $125,000. Proceeds from the walk benefit Operation First Response, a nonprofit organization that provides both financial and emotional support to wounded soldiers and their families.        Read more

The New Jersey Bankers Association and New Jersey Banker magazine are accepting nominations for our New Leaders in Banking honors. This program recognizes the upcoming stars of the banking industry.

Please nominate an individual that should be considered for this year's recognition. Self-nominations are acceptable.  Nominations will close on September 7, 2012.  Winners will be chosen by an independent committee and will be notified by early October.  Awards will be distributed at a dinner event on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Tropicana Resort in Atlantic City.      Read more
