Federal Home Loan Bank of New York Directors Election Ballot Deadline Approaching

In Memoriam - David W. Rossnagel

It is with sadness that we report the passing of David W. Rossnagel. Dave was a senior vice president at Investors Bank where he worked for 39 years in internal audit and security.  He had also served as the National Chairman for the Financial Managers Society, was a past president of the FMS NY/NJ chapter, was a former chairman of the NJBankers Internal Audit Committee and was active in many other association activities.  Visiting hours are on Thursday from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054.  The service will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Bethlehem Church, 758 Rt. 10, Randolph, NJ 07869.   Read more

Federal Home Loan Bank of New York to Stop Processing International Wire Transfers at Year End

The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York recently announced that, as a result of the uncertainty posed by provisions of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and rules promulgated by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, it plans to stop processing international wire transfers for its members on December 31, 2012.

Under the new rules and provisions, after February 7, 2013, covered international wire transfers conducted by remittance transfer providers and sent by consumers in the United States to individuals and businesses in foreign countries will require appropriate disclosures prior to and at the time of payment; cancellation and refund rights; investigation and remedy of errors by remittance transfer providers; and liability standards for remittance transfer providers for the acts of their agents. As a result, the Bank determined that the new potential risks associated with international wire transfers were too great for a non-core service.   Read more

Agencies Increase Dollar Thresholds for Reg Z and M for Exempt Consumer Credit and Lease Transactions

The adjustments to the thresholds reflect the annual percentage increase in the CPI as of June 1, 2012 and will take effect on January 1, 2013.   Read more

HUD Hosting Listening Session to Aid Long Term Recovery in Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy

The Newark office of Housing and Urban Development will host a “Listening Session” which is an opportunity to provide input to HUD on the rehabilitation of housing units damaged by the storm and the rebuilding of neighborhoods that have suffered major destruction.  The information gained at the Listening Session will help HUD fulfill its mission assignment with FEMA for long-term recovery in New Jersey and develop a plan for rebuilding.   Read more

FDIC New York Region Regulatory Teleconference: Flood Insurance Compliance and an Examiner's Perspective

On December 3, 2012, the FDIC's New York Region will host a Regional Regulatory Teleconference.  The subject of the call is “Flood Insurance Compliance and an Examiner's Perspective.”

The 90 minute session will discuss the regulatory expectations for Flood Insurance compliance, including common pitfalls and potential violations that could result in civil money penalties.

The teleconference is primarily open to FDIC-supervised institutions in the New York Region. Bank directors, officers, and staff members are welcome to participate. Participants may call in from any location and are not required to be onsite at their institution.   Read more

Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University.  Dr. Hughes will be followed by Tal Scheer and Dave Thornton of Crowe Horwath LLP, who will provide an Accounting/Tax Update.  After a break, attendees will hear from Stephen King and Martin M.
