NJBankers Education Foundation Donates $5,000 to Rutgers University to Aid Veteran Students

The Trustees of the New Jersey Bankers Education Foundation recently presented a $5,000 scholarship to the Office of Veteran Affairs at Rutgers University at the Economic Leadership Forum in Somerset, NJ. These funds are used to assist veteran students facing temporary financial hurdles in continuing with their education.   Read more

Beige Book: Pace of Growth Modest or Moderate; New York and Philadelphia Districts Rebounding from Immediate Impacts of SuperStorm Sandy

 Reports from the twelve Federal Reserve Districts indicated that economic activity has expanded since the previous Beige Book report, with all twelve Districts characterizing the pace of growth as either modest or moderate. Since the previous Beige Book, activity in the New York and Philadelphia Districts rebounded from the immediate impacts of SuperStorm Sandy.   Read more

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is issuing rules to prevent any mortgage lenders from steering borrowers into risky and high-cost loans.   Read more

Treasury and IRS Issue Final Regulations to Combat Offshore Tax Evasion

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have issued final regulations implementing the information reporting and withholding tax provisions for the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). According to Treasury and the IRS, these provisions target non-compliance by U.S. taxpayers using foreign accounts. The issuance of the final regulations establishes a common intergovernmental approach to combating tax evasion.   Read more

FFIEC Proposes Guidance on Social Media

The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) has issued proposed guidance on the applicability of consumer protection and compliance laws, regulations, and policies to activities conducted via social media by banks, savings associations, and credit unions, as well as nonbank entities supervised by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and state regulators.
