Governor Signs Emergency Regulations to Adopt FEMA's Updated Advisory Base Flood Elevation Maps

Governor Chris Christie signed emergency regulations to adopt the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) updated Advisory Base Flood Elevation (ABFEs) maps as the rebuilding standard for the entire state. These regulations adopt the height and construction requirements in FEMA's Advisory Base Flood Elevation (ABFE) map as a state standard; allows property owners who rebuild to the ABFEs to do so by Permit By Rule; allows "wet floodproofing" for non residential buildings; and eliminates requirements that now allow certain building foundations to have only three walls. The rule will become effective immediately upon filing with the Office of Administrative Law.  Read more

Stand Up for Banking at ABA's Government Relations Summit

Bankers are encouraged to attend the ABA Government Relations Summit in Washington, DC on April 15-17, 2013. The Summit includes presentations by thought leaders, bank regulators and members of Congress. The most important part of the Summit is the contact with Congressman and Senators. NJBankers will arrange for meetings with members of Congress and their staff on Tuesday April 16th followed by an exclusive NJBankers dinner.

In an effort to stimulate attendance among young bankers, ABA is offering scholarships of $500 per person (one per state) to young bankers in order to defray travel expenses for these Summit participants. Bankers are encouraged to attend the ABA Government Relations Summit this Spring. The Summit includes presentations by thought leaders, bank regulators and members of Congress.

Community Bankers Association of New Jersey Donates to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund

On December 19, 2012, New Jersey’s First Lady, Mary Pat Christie, hosted a Thank You Fundraising event at Drumthwacket for those who donated to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. At the event, the Community Bankers Association of New Jersey made a $10,000 donation to the relief fund. In attendance and pictured with Mrs. Christie were: Peter Kenny, President and CEO of Heritage Community Bank and President of the Community Bankers Association; William D. Moss, President and CEO of Two River Community Bank and Vice President of the Community Bankers Association; and Paul E. Fitzgerald, Vice Chairman of First Bank and Past President of the Community Bankers Association.   Read more

NJBankers Service Awards Recognize Milestone Anniversaries


NJBankers recognizes individuals celebrating milestone anniversaries through the NJBankers Service Award program. Employees and directors of member institutions celebrating their 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, 45th, and 50th years of service to the banking industry will be recognized during the upcoming NJBankers Annual Conference. Those being recognized will be included in the Service Awards booklet which will be distributed at the Conference and hand delivered or mailed with a certificate following the Conference; outside directors certificates will be presented at the Directors & Managing Officers Conference on March 15, 2013.

This webinar series will offer bankers ideas and possible strategies to enhance efforts to promote community development and economic inclusion. Each webinar will highlight a topic that may be of interest to financial institutions, particularly community banks.
