NJBankers Coastal Habitat Bankers Build Initiative Launched!
Manasquan Savings Bank volunteers begin working on a house severely impacted by Superstorm Sandy

James Vaccaro, president/CEO, Manasquan Savings Bank joins with a Coastal Habitat contractor during the Bankers Build initiative. Vaccaro and his team installed a subfloor during the build.

NJBankers and our members have partnered with Coastal Habitat for Humanity for a 25 day summer build program. Every Tuesday and Thursday this summer, a team of eight to ten bankers will work on a Habitat project. The first group of NJBankers members to begin the rebuild of a house damaged by Superstorm Sandy was Manasquan Savings Bank.

The program was kicked off by a press event yesterday in Manasquan. In attendance were Manasquan Savings Bank President/CEO James Vaccaro and bank volunteers; NJBankers President/CEO John E. McWeeney, Jr. and EVP Michael Affuso; Coastal Habitat for Humanity President Charlie Mannino and Executive Director Maureen Mulligan; Assemblyman David Rible and Manasquan Mayor George Dempsey. OCC Issues Bulletin Revising Guidance on Appeals

Bulletin 2013-15 revises OCC policy where banks may appeal agency decisions and actions and provide additional guidance on appealable matters. The policy applies to national banks, federal savings associations, and federal branches and agencies. The Bulletin establishes the process through which a bank can seek a review of agency supervisory decisions and actions.    Read more

Fed Beige Book: Overall Economic Activity Increased at Modest to Moderate Pace

Overall economic activity increased at a modest to moderate pace since the previous Beige Book across all Federal Reserve Districts. In the Second District, small - to medium -sized banks report an increase in demand for all types of loans except for C&I loans, where demand was unchanged. Bankers report little change in demand for refinancing, on balance. Overall, Third District financial firms have reported slight increases in total loan volume since the previous Beige Book. Banking contacts cited stronger demand for C&I loans and real estate loans-- commercial and residential. Credit card loan volumes were relatively unchanged, while reports of other consumer lending were mixed. Read more for full details. Read more

CFPB Releases Compliance Guides on Loan Origination and Servicing

The small entity guides were issued for the loan originator and mortgage servicing rules that were finalized in January and take effect January 10, 2014. In addition to other provisions, the rule regulates how and by who loan originators are paid; governs their qualifications and identification; and prohibits mandatory arbitration clauses and waivers of federal statutory causes of action in contracts.   Read more

Colonial American Bank Celebrates Shrewsbury Branch Grand Opening


Colonial American Bank held the grand opening of its new Shrewsbury branch office on Saturday, June 1, 2013, with Ken Kobylowski, commissioner, New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance, cutting the ribbon to start the celebration. Columbia Bank Foundation Grant Helps Fair Lawn Opportunity Center

Columbia Bank, through their Columbia Bank Foundation, recently presented a $22,600 grant to the Opportunity Center of Fair Lawn. The grant was used to renovate their outdated kitchen facilities.

Crest Savings Bank Promotes Cleaver and Graham


Crest Savings Bank has announced the promotion of Nancy Cleaver to senior vice president and chief lending officer and Karen Graham to senior vice president and chief operations officer. Kearny Federal Savings Bank Funds Financial Literacy Program for Students

Wood-Ridge High School students received certification in financial literacy after completing the district’s new online program created by endorsed service provider EverFi Inc. and funded by Kearny Federal Savings Bank. Associate Member Ambassador Financial Group Acts as Financial Advisor to Merger

Associate member Ambassador Financial Group, Inc. announced that it has acted as financial advisor and provided the fairness opinion to Haven Bancorp, Inc., in regards to its agreement to acquire Hilltop Community Bancorp, Inc. in an all cash transaction. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2013, subject to customary closing conditions.
