Agencies Issue Proposed Rule Exempting Subset of Higher-Priced Mortgage Loans from Appraisal Requirements

Six federal financial regulatory agencies have issued a proposed rule to create exemptions from certain appraisal requirements for a subset of higher-priced mortgage loans. According to the agencies, the proposed exemptions are intended to save borrowers time and money and promote the safety and soundness of creditors. These requirements for higher-priced mortgages were imposed by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act).   Read more

CFPB Launches Regulatory Initiative for Debt Collection Practices

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has launched a regulatory initiative on debt collection practices. The CFPB released two bulletins which alert banks and other regulated entities about its concerns with current debt collection practices.   Read more

FinCEN Revises Armored Car Transaction Reporting

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) revised a ruling on how banks should complete a Currency Transaction Report (CTR) when cash is delivered or picked up by an armored car service.   Read more

BCG, Inc. NEWS - Affordable Care Act Mandate Delay

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced on July 5th that it will delay implementation of the employer mandate penalties and reporting requirements until 2015. It also says it will simplify the reporting requirements. The news is particularly important to large employers (50 or more employees) who will not be subject to penalties in 2014, as originally required under the law, if they do not offer affordable coverage that meets minimum value as defined under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).    Read more

FHLBNY Begins Director Election Process; Gerald H. Lipkin is NJBankers Recommended Candidate
The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York announced that it is soliciting nominations for Directors to serve on its Board of Directors for terms commencing on January 1, 2014.  In total, six Directorships will be up for election in 2013. Two of these Directorships will reflect the addition of two new seats to the Board. At its May 15, 2013 meeting, the NJBankers Board of Directors unanimously named Gerald H. Lipkin, chairman, president & CEO, Valley National Bank, headquartered in Wayne, NJ, as the New Jersey recommended candidate. Read more

Valley National Bancorp, the holding company for Valley National Bank, announced that Gerald H. Lipkin, chairman, president and CEO, has been elected a Class A director to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.  Lipkin will fill the unexpired portion of the term of office ending December 31, 2013, to succeed Richard L. Columbia Bank Foundation Grant Helps Robins' Nest in Glassboro

Columbia Bank, through their Columbia Bank Foundation, recently presented a $10,000 grant to Robins’ Nest, Inc., a private children’s services organization that provides over 40 different support programs within seven counties throughout Southern New Jersey.  The grant was used to renovate the damaged front porch of their Glassboro group home facility.

Millington Savings Bank Steps Up for the Fight Against Cancer

Spencer Savings Bank Grants $22,500 in Scholarships to Local High School and Middle School Students

Spencer Savings Bank awarded $22,500 in scholarships this year to local students, through its annual scholarship program established to aid local youth in their pursuit of higher education. Spencer Savings Bank recognized 30 high school and middle school students for their outstanding academic achievements and educational goals, awarding each high school student a $1,000 scholarship and each middle school student a $500 Coverdell Education Savings Account (CESA), at an award ceremony.   Read more
