ABA Survey: Popularity of Mobile Banking Continues to Climb
For first time, more people prefer mobile banking over phone and mail

The popularity of mobile banking continues to grow, according to a recent survey by the American Bankers Association (ABA).  The survey of 1,000 U.S. adults revealed that while the Internet remains the most popular banking method, mobile banking has eclipsed the popularity of the telephone and U.S. mail and is now preferred by 8 percent of customers—a 30 percent increase from 2012.   Read more

 
NJBankers Membership Urged to Vote For Gerald H. Lipkin for FHLBNY Director

The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York mailed ballots Friday, October 4, 2013, for the upcoming elections for candidates to serve on its Board of Directors. One election will fill the vacancy for a seat that represents the Bank's New Jersey members for a term that begins January 1, 2014.

All completed ballots must be received by the Bank by 5:00 p.m. on November 4, 2013. 

At its May 15, 2013 meeting, the NJBankers Board of Directors unanimously named Gerald H. Lipkin, chairman, president & CEO, Valley National Bank, headquartered in Wayne, NJ, as the New Jersey recommended candidate. Lipkin has a long career as both a regulator and banker in the New Jersey marketplace and will be a valuable addition to the Board in representing the interests of member banks.    Read more

 
Interagency Proposal Would Amend Flood Insurance Rules

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Reserve and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation are proposing to amend regulations regarding loans in areas having special flood hazards in order to implement provisions of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012.    Read more

 
FFIEC Issues Alert Regarding End of Microsoft Support for Windows XP

The FFIEC agencies have issued a joint statement to alert financial institutions that the discontinuation of support for the Microsoft Windows XP operating system could present operational risks to financial institutions, technology service providers, and to activities supported by other third parties. The agencies expect financial institutions and TSPs to identify, assess, and manage these risks to ensure that safety, soundness, and the ability to deliver products and services are not compromised.   Read more

Lucia DiNapoli Gibbons has been appointed the head of Wells Fargo's Business Banking team for the bank’s Eastern Region.  In this newly created role, Gibbons, an 11-year company veteran, is responsible for developing and leading the growth strategy for the bank’s Business Banking segment which assists companies to grow and expand with revenues of $2 million to $20 million.   Read more

 
Japanese Banking Delegation Visits Atlantic Stewardship Bank's Wyckoff Branch

On Tuesday, September 17, 2013 a twenty member Japanese community banking delegation visited the Atlantic Stewardship Bank in Wyckoff. The purpose of the visit was to learn about best practices and trends in community banking. Topics of discussion included strategies/policies to integrate and connect with the local community, methods to successfully compete against and differentiate from national bank competitors in the region, Atlantic Stewardship Bank’s unique tithing program, innovative and unique products and services offered and employee training and retention programs.  Read more

Columbia Bank Hosts Charity Golf Classic

Columbia Bank announced that their 25th Annual Charity Golf Classic at High Mountain Country Club in Franklin Lakes raised $40,000 for the benefit of the Center of United Methodist Aid in the Community (CUMAC) food bank.  More than 100 golfers took part in this charitable fund raiser. 

In a separate donation, The Columbia Bank Foundation also recently issued a special grant to CUMAC to purchase a much-needed commercial freezer.

Mariner's Bank Teams Up With Coastal Habitat for Humanity for "Bankers Build"

A volunteer crew of Mariner’s Bank employees teamed up with The Coastal Habitat for Humanity in a Superstorm Sandy relief effort. The team spent the day building floors for a storm-damaged house in Manasquan. This effort was part of the NJBankers “Bankers Build” Initiative.    Read more

 
NVE Bank Donates $2,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County

NVE Bank supported Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County in its mission to provide affordable housing for low income families in Bergen County by making a $2,000 donation to the organization.  In addition, NVE employees volunteered for two days at a site in Oradell, where Habitat is building two duplexes that will create four 3-bedroom homes.  Bank employees painted, laid floors and performed other construction tasks at the site, helping site managers complete the homes in time for early November occupancy.    Read more

 
Peapack-Gladstone Bank Supports VNA Fall Rumage Sale

Peapack-Gladstone Bank is an active participant in supporting the local organizations that provide vital services to our communities.  To assist in preparation for the VNA Rummage Sale, Bank employees recently rolled up their sleeves and provided hands-on support in unloading, sorting, tagging and organizing donations.  Working in tents and on the Fairground trails, no job was too big or too small.   Read more

 
Provident Bank Foundation Helps High School Students Experience College

Provident Bank Foundation which supports organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of residents in the New Jersey communities served by Provident Bank, provided a $7,500 grant to Drew University in support of Drew Summer College. The grant enabled the opportunity for Newark high school students to experience a week-long college program at Drew University this past summer.

Regal Bank Turns Parking Lot into "Barking Lot"

Dozens of dogs -- and the folks who love them—gathered for the 5th Annual Livingston Dog Pawrade. Hosted by Regal Bank, the event took place September 29th in the parking lot of the company’s branch on West Mt. Pleasant Avenue. The festivities included vendor exhibits, a parade of pooches and awards for best costume, biggest and smallest dog. Attendees raised more than $2,400 to benefit the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter.
