FDIC Issues FIL Concerning D&O Liability Insurance Policies, Exclusions, and Indemnification for Civil Money Penalties

The FDIC has issued FIL 47-2013 concerning director and officer liability insurance policies, exclusions and indemnification for civil money penalties noting an increase in exclusionary terms or provisions in director and officer liability insurance policies purchased by financial institutions. The exclusions may limit insurance coverage under certain circumstances, thereby increasing the potential personal exposure of board members and bank officers in civil lawsuits.   Read more

 
OCC and Federal Reserve Publish Final Basel III Capital Rules

The final rule, adopted in July by both agencies and the FDIC, sets the minimum regulatory capital requirements for all organizations. It includes a new common equity Tier 1 ratio of 4.5 percent of risk-weighted assets, raises the minimum Tier 1 capital ratio from 4 percent to 6 percent of risk-weighted assets and sets a new conservation buffer of 2.5 percent of risk-weighted assets.   Read more

 
CFPB Provides Guidance on Mortgage Servicing Rules

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has released Bulletin 2013 – 12 regarding an interim final rule designed to provide greater clarity concerning mortgage servicing rules that take effect in January 2014. The clarifications address communications with family members after a borrower dies, contact with delinquent borrowers, and treatment of consumers who have filed for bankruptcy or invoked certain protections under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.   Read more

 
NJBankers Membership Urged to Vote For Gerald H. Lipkin for FHLBNY Director

The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York mailed ballots Friday, October 4, 2013, for the upcoming elections for candidates to serve on its Board of Directors. One election will fill the vacancy for a seat that represents the Bank's New Jersey members for a term that begins January 1, 2014.

All completed ballots must be received by the Bank by 5:00 p.m. on November 4, 2013. 

At its May 15, 2013 meeting, the NJBankers Board of Directors unanimously named Gerald H. Lipkin, chairman, president & CEO, Valley National Bank, headquartered in Wayne, NJ, as the New Jersey recommended candidate. Lipkin has a long career as both a regulator and banker in the New Jersey marketplace and will be a valuable addition to the Board in representing the interests of member banks.    Read more

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation announced more than $800,000 in housing grants to 22 New Jersey nonprofits focused on helping individuals and families achieve and sustain financial stability. BCB Community Bank Joins with New Jersey Agencies in Developing Low Cost Housing in Jersey City

BCB Community Bank, working in conjunction with NJ Deptartment of Community Affairs, NJ Housing and Mortgage Finance agency, Hudson County home funds, Jersey City redevelopment funds and the Morris Canal Community Development Corp., were able to develop 8 affordable housing units in Jersey City. The total cost for the project was in excess of $2,000,000. Columbia Bank "Teams Up" with Burlington County Habitat for Humanity

A volunteer crew of Columbia Bank employees recently teamed up with Burlington County Habitat for Humanity to help renovate a home for single mothers and their children in Mount Holly.  The Team Columbia volunteers worked on the interior of the home, built a sidewalk and spruced up the yard.

Fulton Bank of New Jersey Joins NJBankers to "Restore the Shore"

Fulton Bank of New Jersey supported Coastal Habitat for Humanity in its goal to provide affordable housing for low income families at the Jersey Shore by making an $1,800 donation to the organization.  In addition, FBNJ employees volunteered for two days at sites in Manasquan, painting, cleaning, laying floors and performing other construction tasks to help in the rebuilding process in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. This project was part of the NJBankers “Bankers Build” Initiative.   Read more

 
Peapack-Gladstone Bank Employees Give the Gift of Life

Every two seconds, a patient in the United States is in need of blood. Since blood cannot be manufactured, this startling statistic underscores the crucial need for blood donations.  One pint of blood can save up to three lives, so making a blood donation is a unique chance to save not one but multiple lives. 

Peapack-Gladstone Bank makes donating blood a bi-annual company-wide effort.  Each spring and fall, employees line up to give the gift of life.  In conjunction with New York Blood Services, Peapack-Gladstone Bank recently held its 16th consecutive Employee Blood Drive at their Corporate Headquarters in Bedminster.  This year’s fall blood drive presented 69 donors, collecting 58 products. Seen above is Peapack-Gladstone Bank employee and Fall Blood Drive donor, Elizabeth von der Linde.   Read more
