Fed Beige Book: National Economic Activity Continued to Expand at a Modest to Moderate Pace

Reports from the twelve Federal Reserve Districts suggest that national economic activity continued to expand at a modest to moderate pace during the reporting period of September through early October. Eight Districts reported similar growth rates in economic activity as during the previous reporting period while growth slowed in the Philadelphia District. Contacts across Districts generally remained cautiously optimistic in their outlook for future economic activity.    Read more

NJBankers Membership Urged to Vote For Gerald H. Lipkin for FHLBNY Director

The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York mailed ballots Friday, October 4, 2013, for the upcoming elections for candidates to serve on its Board of Directors. One election will fill the vacancy for a seat that represents the Bank's New Jersey members for a term that begins January 1, 2014.

All completed ballots must be received by the Bank by 5:00 p.m. on November 4, 2013. 

At its May 15, 2013 meeting, the NJBankers Board of Directors unanimously named Gerald H. Lipkin, chairman, president & CEO, Valley National Bank, headquartered in Wayne, NJ, as the New Jersey recommended candidate. Lipkin has a long career as both a regulator and banker in the New Jersey marketplace and will be a valuable addition to the Board in representing the interests of member banks.    Read more

Sorrentino Elected to ABA Board of Directors to Serve Three Year Term

Frank Sorrentino, chairman, president and CEO, ConnectOne Bank, has been elected to serve a three-year term on the board of directors of the American Bankers Association (ABA). The announcement was made at the ABA’s annual convention.

Sorrentino joins Norman E. Beatty, chairman, president and CEO, First Hope Bank, who continues to serve for a one year term on the ABA board as well.

Terry H. Thompson, president and COO of New Jersey Community Bank also represents New Jersey bankers on the federal delegate board of the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA). Thompson was chosen as the NJ representative by NJ bank members of the ICBA.

New Jersey bankers are well represented in the national bank trade associations serving the interests of the banking industry in our great Garden State. Congratulations to all for your dedication to our industry, your stakeholders, customers and communities you serve.

The presentation discussed the current economy and projections for future changes. After his presentation, Albertson answered questions from the audience. BCB Community Bank Holds Bayonne Bridge Run to Help Wounded Vets

BCB Community Bank sponsored a run/walk across the Bayonne Bridge on Sunday, September 29th to aid wounded U.S. Service personnel.

Working in conjunction with the City of Bayonne, Police, Fire, McCabe EMS and Public Works departments and the New York/New Jersey Port Authority, BCB was able to have the entire span of the Bayonne Bridge closed to traffic between the hours of 8:00am and 10:00am, Sunday, September 29th.  Runners and walkers could then make their way across the Bridge to Staten Island and back.    Read more

Columbia Bank Purchases Life-Saving Device To Benefit Wayne’s Foundation for the Handicapped

Columbia Bank recently made a special donation to the Foundation for the Handicapped, Inc. in Wayne to purchase a much-needed portable defibrillator/monitor.

Kearny Federal Savings Presents Financial Literacy Lesson to Robert R. Lazar Middle School Students

Students of the Robert R. Lazar Middle School in Montville recently received a financial literacy lesson presented by Anna Proleika, Kearny Federal Savings Bank’s senior compliance analyst. The “Money Does not Grow on Trees” presentation focused on money management behavior for the appropriate age group, discussing “needs versus wants” and supporting young generation’s healthy saving habits.

Provident Bank Foundation Helps New City Kids with Capital Campaign

Provident Bank Foundation, which supports organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of residents in the New Jersey communities served by Provident Bank, has provided a $10,000 grant to New City Kids in support of its capital campaign project.
