A Record Number Attend NJBankers Annual BSA Seminar

Last Wednesday, over 140 members attended the NJBankers’ Annual Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Seminar conducted by Phillips Gay of Profit Protection, LLC. Members heard the latest on the impact of new BSA rules, exam and enforcement actions, SAR trends, OFAC developments, best practices for higher risk customer due-diligence and, of course, had ample time for networking with their peers and exhibiting sponsors - FIS,Karen Martino & Associates, P&G Associates, RSK Compliance Solutions and Verafin.  The program was held at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, New Jersey. Members Urged to Ratify Proposed By-law Amendments

At its meeting on November 20, 2013, the Board of Directors recommended that the membership ratify changes to the New Jersey Bankers Association Bylaws. A packet of information relating to the proposed changes was mailed to all Regular Member banks on December 2, 2013. Members are urged to review the information and vote on the changes as soon as possible, but no later than January 16, 2014. The Board of Directors urges ratification of all the proposed amendments.

NJBankers Service Awards Recognize Milestone Anniversaries - DEADLINE EXTENDED

Employees and directors of member institutions who are celebrating their 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, 45th, and 50th years of service to the banking industry will be recognized at the NJBankers 2014 Annual Conference. Those being recognized will be included in the Service Awards booklet which will be distributed at the Conference and hand delivered or mailed with a certificate following the Conference. Outside bank directors will be presented with certificates at the NJBankers Directors & Managing Officers Conference on March 14, 2014. The submission deadline has been extended to December 23, 2013.   Read more

FFIEC Issues Social Media Guidance

The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, on behalf of its members, has issued Guidance to clarify that consumer protection laws and regulations apply to activities that financial institutions conduct through social media just as they would to activities conducted through other channels. Although the Guidance does not impose any new requirements on financial institutions, FFIEC notes that financial institutions are expected to manage potential risks associated with social media usage and access.   Read more

Agencies Revise High-Priced Mortgage Appraisal Rule

The Agencies proposed exemptions to additional types of higher-cost mortgages from the requirement for an appraisal to be done on the house before the loan is approved. The new final rule exempts mortgages of less than $25,000 and certain kinds of refinances. Loans on manufactured homes are effective July 18, 2015.   Read more

Atlantic Stewardship Bank Annual November Food Drive Continues to Exceed Expectations

During the month of November, Atlantic Stewardship Bank conducted a food drive throughout all of its branches. The annual food collection aims to replenish the food pantry reserves that are depleted by the Thanksgiving holiday. All month long, both customers and bank associates are asked to fill the baskets with non-perishable food items. Regal Bank Celebrates the Season of Giving

Regal Bank presented the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter with a check for $2,400. These funds were raised during the bank’s 5th Annual Livingston Dog Pawrade, a fun-filled event for pets and the people who love them. Spencer Savings Bank Conducts Mock Job Fair at Eva's Village

Spencer Savings Bank demonstrated its continuous support for Eva’s Village, a non-profit social services organization in Paterson, dedicated to changing the lives of the hungry, homeless and addicted, by hosting a Mock Job Fair for the organization’s clients. Valley National Bank Gives Back to the Community

Valley National Bank employees celebrated the holidays early this year by helping those that need it most.  For the 11th year in a row, Valley National Bank participated in the Salvation Army’s Angel Giving Tree Program.  The Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree Program is an adoption program that allows sponsors to provide Christmas gifts to children in need. To help make this a special Holiday for needy children throughout northern New Jersey, Valley employees contributed over 450 brand new board games, dolls, action figures, puzzles, books, clothes and much more to the Salvation Army.   Read more

Financial Services Academy at CFT Graduates Unemployed Individuals with Disabilities including Returning Veterans

CFT, in partnership with Raise Hope Foundation, Inc. launched a new 14-week Financial Services Academy curriculum.  The Academy was designed by CFT to provide the essentials of financial services and prepare individuals seeking employment in the financial services industry.  This first-ever effort by CFT and the Foundation was conducted for thirteen unemployed individuals with disabilities including returning veterans. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of topics that provide an understanding of the banking world and its culture.

Associate Member Riker Danzig Hosts Toy Drive

For the 17th year, employees of Morristown law firm Associate Member Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti LLP collected new, unwrapped toys for children ranging in age from newborn to fifteen years-old.  Hundreds of toys were collected this year and will be donated to the Jersey Battered Women’s Shelter and Neighborhood House. Riker Danzig’s Toy Drive was organized by, from left to right, Kathleen Gannon, Anne Shulman and Bethany Abele.   Read more
