NJBankers Board of Directors Election Underway

Last Wednesday, ballots were mailed to members in Districts 1 and 2 and Class D for the 2014 Board of Directors election. There will not be elections in District 3 and Classes A, C and E, since the number of accepted nominations equaled the number of vacancies; nor in Class B since there is no vacancy in 2014.

The following are candidates for the two vacancies in District 1, which includes members headquartered in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and Warren Counties:

• *Thomas Kemly, President & CEO, Columbia Bank
• *Robert Rey, President & CEO, NVE Bank
• Anthony Labozzetta, President & CEO, Sussex Bank
• Thomas Lupo, President & CEO, Regal Bank
• Peter Michelotti, President & CEO, Community Bank of Bergen County, NJ
*denotes incumbent

The following are candidates for the two vacancies in District 2, which includes members headquartered in Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset and Union Counties:

• *John Alexander, Chairman & CEO, Northfield Bank
• *James Hughes, President & CEO, Unity Bank
• John Fitzgerald, President & CEO, Magyar Bank
*denotes incumbent

The following are candidates for the one vacancy in Class D, which is the smallest asset sized class:

• Henry Ingrassia, President & CEO, Glen Rock Savings Bank
• Peter Schoberl, Chairman, President & CEO, Community First Bank

There will not be elections for: Class A, since incumbent Craig Montanaro, President & CEO, Kearny Federal Savings Bank, is the only candidate for the one vacancy; Class C, since incumbent Paul Fitzgerald, Vice Chairman, First Bank, is the only candidate for the one vacancy; District 3 since incumbent James Genoy, President, CEO and Treasurer, Monroe Savings Bank, SLA, is the only candidate for the one vacancy; and Class E since incumbents Thomas J. Holt, Senior Vice President, Bank of America, D. Nicholas Miceli, Market President, TD Bank, and Michael Nardo, EVP/NE U.S. Market Executive-Corp. Banking,  are the only candidates for the three vacancies. In accordance with the NJBankers by-laws, the Board of Directors will declare these candidates elected at its April 30, 2014 meeting.

Columbia Bank Foundation Grant Helps Chilton Medical Center's Breast Center


Columbia Bank, through their Columbia Bank Foundation, has presented a $25,000 grant to the Chilton Medical Center Breast Center in Pompton Plains.  The special community grant funded the purchase of a new 3-D Breast Tomosynthesis device, state-of-the-art mammography equipment that is so accurate it can detect up to 30 percent more cancers.

Highlands State Bank Raises Funds for the American Heart Association

Highlands State Bank recently donated $650 to the American Heart Association as a result of the bank’s annual National Wear Red Day campaign.  Highlands then matched the over $300 raised through the generosity of employees and customers at the bank’s Vernon, Sparta, and Totowa locations, and presented a check to Kristen A. Piccolo, regional director for the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

Oritani Bank Donates to Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County

Oritani Bank held its annual “Habitat House Sale” which generated more than $1,800 in donations that were donated to Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County. Each bank branch sold paper houses in order to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County’s Sandy Restoration Program for Moonachie and Little Ferry.
