NJBankers Associate Member Orientation and "3rd Annual Asphalt in August" Picnic a Success!

On August 19th, NJBankers hosted an Associate Member Welcome Orientation for  new associates as well as current associates.  In addition to the day’s core meeting, all associate members were invited to join NJBankers staff for the third Annual "Asphalt in August" picnic in our parking lot.  It turned out to be a great day to welcome and meet with associate members who represented 26 firms.

Associate members were introduced to NJBankers staff and the opportunities and resources available with membership.  It was a beautiful  afternoon  with good picnic food and casual conversation.

NJBankers has 240 associate member firms. We thank all of our associate members for their support of the association and we pledge our continued efforts to provide value for your membership.  NJBankers also thanks seasoned associate members who joined us for the orientation and picnic. Many thanks to Associate Member Committee Chair Roseann Casiere and Vice Chair John Siracusa for attending the meeting and for providing information on how associate members can maximize their investment in NJBankers.

Americans Spending More, but Less Willingly

Americans reported spending more than they were a year ago but feel less willing about their spending, according to a recent Gallup poll. Forty-five percent of Americans said they were spending more, with only 18 percent spending less. A majority of millennials (51 percent) said they were spending more.

Groceries, gasoline, utilities and health care were the categories for which people reported the biggest jump in spending. Thirty-two percent said they were spending more on rent, with only 9 percent saying they spent less.

Among the generations, the youngest Americans (millennials) are more likely than the oldest Americans (Traditionalists) to report spending more this year than a year ago on rent or mortgage (39% for millennials vs. 24% for Traditionalists), leisure activities (38% vs. 21%), and clothing (31% vs. 16%). The other generational groups' spending reports fall midway between these two.

With baby boomers still commanding a substantial share of consumer spending, until they are more willing to spend on discretionary items, their increased spending will probably do little to aid an ailing economy.

Operations & Technology Roundtable - Vendor Management

Operations & Technology Forum: Vendor Management
Tuesday, October 7, 2014
Crowne Plaza Monroe, Monroe Township

The New Jersey Bankers Association’s Operations & Technology Committee is pleased to announce the latest in a series of interactive roundtable programs that will focus on vendor management. With increased outsourcing and heightened regulatory concern, financial institutions of all sizes must have a strong vendor management system in place. The ability of a financial institution to effectively select and manage vendors is directly related to the safety and soundness of the institution. Additionally, financial institutions may be held responsible for the actions of the companies with which they contract and must have an effective process for managing the risks of service provider relationships.

Topics will include:
• Vendor Management Regulatory Guidance Overview
• Assessing a Vendors Level Risk
• Managing Vendor Relationships through Contractual Terms
• Tools for Managing Continued Oversight

Sponsorship Information:  Event sponsorships are available for $500. These roundtables typically attract up to 50-60 IT and operations banking officers and offer an excellent opportunity for providers to heighten awareness of their products or services.  Please contact Jenn Zorn, Vice President & Director of Education and Business Development at jzorn@njbankers.com or 908-272-8500, ext. 611, for details.
