Act Now! Members Urged to Seek Extension for Overtime Proposal Comments

As part of the Partnership to Protect Workplace Opportunity, NJBankers, ABA and other trade associations representing employers have urged the Department of Labor to extend, by 60 days, the comment period on its controversial overtime proposal, which would more than double the salary level required for the exemption from overtime requirements from $455/week to $970/week. It is urgent, for our advocacy efforts, that members take action now. The changes, if adopted as proposed, will have a significant impact on the banking industry, particularly community banks. Comments on the proposal are due by September 4 so we urge members to take action in seeking more time, as the deadline does not provide enough time to assess fully the effect of the proposal on employers. Take action now. Read More

As Millennials Move Back to Cities, Banks are Shelling out to Apartment Developers
It starts with this global trend: People are moving back to the cities. Here in New Jersey, it is fueling a boom in the state's commercial real estate lending market. Developers are getting building permits at the same rate they did during the 1980s housing boom, and banks this year have more than doubled the loans they shelled out to apartment builders since the year 2011.

Banks Seek Out Activists
When banks seek regulators’ approval to buy other banks, their community reinvestment and minority-lending records are being scrutinized more by the federal government in the wake of the financial crisis.

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

When that trust is broken, it throws seniors into isolation and despair. The nationally-acclaimed Senior Crimestoppers program is the only initiative, public or private, having a measurable impact on crime and abuse in America’s low and moderate income nursing homes and Veterans homes. Funding for this program comes exclusively from the banking industry and serves as an easy way for your bank to earn CRA loan, investment and service test credit while protecting society’s most vulnerable – our elderly. Bank benefits include: guaranteed CRA credit, no credit risk, no overhead or administrative burden, the bank makes all the decisions and receives positive public relations.
