NJBankers Goes to Washington

On September 28 – 30, NJBankers Chairman Gerald Reeves led a contingent of 22 bankers to visit our nation’s capital for our annual regulatory visit. Also participating was NJBankers Second Vice Chairman James Vaccaro, NJBankers President & CEO John McWeeney, Jr. and NJBankers Executive Vice Presidents Mike Affuso and Jim Meredith. Over a two day period the group met with senior representatives of the Federal Reserve, the OCC, the CFPB, the Treasury Department and the FDIC. The group also had a very informative joint briefing from the ABA and ICBA. Read more

On September 24, NJBankers Chairman Gerald Reeves hosted a dinner at the Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank recognizing former NJBankers Chairs. We were pleased to have 8 former chairs join Chairman Reeves and Second Vice Chairman James Vaccaro along with NJBankers President/CEO John McWeeney and NJBankers Executive Vice Presidents Mike Affuso and Jim Meredith for an evening of appreciation and reconnecting with old friends. The Federal Reserve approved the acquisition of Paramus-based Hudson City Bancorp Inc. by M&T Bank Corp., following a grueling three-year review, making it possible for the Buffalo-based lender to take over New Jersey’s largest home-grown bank.

"Local Bankers Shrug After Fed Punts on Interest-Rate Decision"
Local bankers reacted to the Federal Reserve's decision to delay a rate increase with a collective shrug, even though most would have liked to see some movement because higher rates would create opportunities for wider profit margins.

Agencies to Host Fair Lending Webinar
On Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. EDT, the federal banking agencies will host a free webinar on fair lending hot topics for 2015. The webinar will cover the use of data in evaluating fair lending risk, compliance management, pricing issues, factoring in maternity leave, post-origination risk and other topics. Twenty-seven State Banking Associations Attend the Annual "For Profit Directors Forum" in Michigan
Members of 27 State Banking Associations convened in Mackinac Island, Michigan this past week for the Annual For Profit Directors Forum.  The association For Profit Directors heard from 13 firms with endorsements and/or looking for endorsements with the state banking associations.

FDIC Expands Accessibility of Money Smart Curriculum
The FDIC is expanding the accessibility of its Money Smart curriculum with new resources available in alternative formats. The agency now offers the 11-module Money Smart curriculum in braille and large print formats, while its Money Smart audio podcast is now available in Spanish.

Federal Reserve Bank of New York Business Leaders' Survey
The New York Business Leaders' Survey is a monthly survey of service firms in New York State, northern New Jersey and southwestern Connecticut, conducted by the New York Fed. The September 2015 Business Leaders Survey indicates that activity in the region’s service sector continued to expand modestly.

First Bank Recognized as One of the Top 10 Fastest Growing Community Banks in U.S.
First Bank is the fastest growing Mid-Atlantic-based bank according to data compiled from business-intelligence firm SNL Financial during the last 36 months. Additionally, First Bank ranked sixth out of 432 community banks (<$1B 2015 assets) based on asset-growth rate in the United States. 

Hopewell Valley Community Bank Honors Local Women Biz Owners During the Month of October
Hopewell Valley Community Bank (HVC Bank) will celebrate National Women in Business Month this October by releasing 14 videos featuring woman-owned businesses in the bank's area.
