Congressman Pallone Commends NJBankers Bankers Build Initiative

Recently, NJBankers received a letter from Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. commending the NJBankers’ Bankers Build initiative. The Congressman lauded the “immeasurable contributions to Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts” by NJBankers and our members. Bankers Build brought a coalition of New Jersey banks together to help repair homes damaged by the Superstorm.  Read More

McWeeney Quoted on Small NJ Banks Under Pressure to Merge
Bank analysts are speculating that the Federal Reserve's long-awaited approval last month of M&T Bank Corp.'s plan to buy Paramus-based Hudson City Bancorp for more than $5 billion may signal that the door is open for other bank deals. Some of the same pressures that drove Hudson City into the arms of Buffalo-based M&T — low interest rates, narrow profit margins and new regulatory restrictions — have prompted owners of a growing number of small New Jersey banks to throw in the towel.

PNC Shows Off Its First Teller-Less Bank Branch in Ridgewood
The teller-less bank branch has arrived in Bergen County. Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank has opened its first New Jersey branch with no teller counter and no tellers in downtown Ridgewood.

Capital Bank Reports Results through September 30; Completes Stock Repurchase
Capital Bank of New Jersey, the South Jersey community bank owned by hundreds of local stockholders,announced its results through the third quarter. The bank reported a net income of $2,956,000 for the nine months ended September 30, 2015, a 11.5% increase over the same period in 2014. Capital Bank also reported that its total assets at September 30, 2015 were $369 million.

FFIEC Warns of Increased Threat from Extortion-Related Cyber Attacks
The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council yesterday alerted financial institutions about the increasing frequency and severity of cyberattacks involving extortion. These attacks employ tactics such as ransomware, denial of service and theft of sensitive business and customer information to extort payments or other concessions from victims.

NJBIZ Names CFO of the Year Winners
NJBIZ announced the winners of its CFO of the Year awards for 2015. These financial executives have contributed to the success of not only their own companies, but the state's economy as well. Congratulations to Thomas Lobosco of the Capital Bank of New Jersey for being named a finalist!
