2016 NJBankers Board of Directors Election Process Underway

On February 2, 2016, managing officers in districts and classes in which Board of Directors seats have terms ending in May 2016 were mailed ballots to nominate individuals to run for election to serve on the board. Individuals may nominate themselves. Of the 25 Board seats, 12 seats have terms ending in May with ten of them not eligible for reelection. Directors are elected for a two-year term and may serve two successive terms of two years each.

We encourage you to look for the nominating ballot in the mail and participate in the nomination process. The deadline for nominations is March 3, 2016, which will be followed by a mailing of election ballots on March 23.

If you have any questions or would like additional information on the election, please contact Jim Meredith at 908.272.8500, ext. 614; or jmeredith@njbankers.com.

Recommended Candidate for FHLB-NY Director

On January 15, 2016, a letter was mailed to all managing officers to determine those interested in being considered as a recommended candidate to serve on the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York. This letter was mailed following the NJBankers Board of Directors action to continue with its policy of naming recommended candidates.

One New Jersey director, Jay M. Ford, president/CEO, Crest Savings Bank, has a term that will be expiring on December 31, 2016. Mr. Ford has served two terms and is eligible for reelection. Also serving on the FHLB Board of Directors representing New Jersey institutions are Gerald Lipkin, Valley National Bank (term expires 2017); Kevin Cummings, Investors Bank and Christopher Martin, The Provident Bank (terms expire 2018).

A questionnaire was included with the letter that must be returned by those interested by March 1, 2016. We have tentatively set a membership conference call in early April 2016 for all interested candidates to discuss their reasons for wanting to represent the New Jersey stockholders of the bank. If you have questions regarding the particulars of service on the board, we recommend that you contact FHLB-NY President José R. González.

The NJBankers Board will make a determination on requests for being a recommended candidate at its May 11, 2016 meeting. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact John E. McWeeney, Jr. at 908.272. 8500, ext. 627; or jmcweeney@njbankers.com.
