FHLB-NY Announces 2016 Board of Directors Election Schedule |

The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York (FHLB-NY) has announced the schedule for the 2016 Board of Directors elections. In total, three Member Directorships – one seat representing New Jersey members, currently held by Jay M. Ford, president & CEO, Crest Savings Bank, and two seats representing New York members - are up for election in 2016. In addition, two Independent Directorships representing the whole District are also up for election.
At its meeting of May 11, 2016, the NJBankers Board of Directors named incumbent Jay M. Ford as the NJBankers’ recommended candidate. Mr. Ford has served two terms and is eligible for reelection. While on the Board, he has served as a member of the Executive Committee since January 2015; as Audit Committee Chairman since December 2011 (member since 2008); Vice Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee since August 2012 (member since 2010); and had served as a member of the Risk Committee from March 2013 to December 2014. He is also a former chairman of the New Jersey League of Community Bankers. Mr. Ford has worked in the industry for over 45 years and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Society of CPAs.
NJBankers members that are also members of the FHLB-NY are urged to cast their vote for Mr. Ford when ballots are mailed on September 30, 2016. |

The Warren Hill Award was established in 1998 in honor of Warren Hill, the New Jersey League’s president from 1966 through 1975. The award is presented to the current or former committee member (bank member or associate member) who has demonstrated an overall commitment to meeting the mission of the committee, including providing assistance to NJBankers legislative and regulatory efforts and in developing educational content (seminars, articles, etc.) for the membership. In late May a delegation of 18, including bankers and NJBankers staff members visited Washington, D.C. for the annual regulatory trip. The trip started with a joint regulatory briefing from the ABA and ICBA and then over the course of two days the group met with representatives of the Federal Reserve, FDIC, OCC, Conference of State Banking Supervisors, CFPB and FHFA. Highlights of the trip included meetings with Federal Reserve Governor Jay Powell and FDIC Chairman Martin Gruenberg, as well as some wonderful dinners at Brasserie Beck and Morton’s Steakhouse. Entries Now Being Accepted for ABA Bank Marketing Video Contest
Bank marketers are invited to submit videos they have produced for their institutions to the ABA Bank Marketing video contest. The contest is open to all those that are currently or eligible to be a bank member or service member of ABA. Videos should be relevant and support the marketing message of the financial institution. Submissions must be in English, no more than 4 minutes in length and must be the entrant’s original work or owned work (in the case of a ‘work-for-hire’ video created by an outside agency).
FBI: Bank Robberies Rise in 2015
Bank robberies rose by 3.5 percent in 2015, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s recently released Bank Crime Statistics report. Robberies accounted for 98.5 percent of covered thefts from depository institutions. Less frequent crimes against banks, such as burglaries and larcenies, fell by 25 percent and 12.5 percent respectively. Armored car robberies, which are covered in the report along with theft from depository institutions, rose by 115 percent.
FDIC Rule Adjusts Civil Money Penalty Amounts for Inflation
The FDIC today issued an interim final rule adjusting the maximum amount of the civil money penalties within its jurisdiction to account for inflation, as required by the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015. The rule takes effect Aug. 1.

Millennial Small Business Owners in it for the Long Haul, Wells Fargo Survey Reports
Millennial small business owners are committed to their businesses for the long term and are more willing to take calculated financial risks and incur debt in order to grow their businesses, according to a new Wells Fargo study of millennial small business owners. The study, conducted by research firm GfK, identified similarities and differences today between millennial small business owners and small business owners of earlier generations and how they are potentially impacting the business landscape.

In Memoriam: Robert Brevet, Metuchen Savings Bank
It is with regret that Katherine Liseno, President of Metuchen Savings Bank reports the passing of Robert Brevet, Director since 1995. Mr. Brevet was a graduate of Rutgers University. He was a civil engineer with Arnolt Brothers Inc. of Metuchen for over 30 years. He recently retired from PJR of Freehold. He was a member and Elder of the Reformed Church of Metuchen. He was a member of the Edgar Child Care Center. He coached basketball with the Metuchen YMCA and was a scout leader with Cub Scout Pack 15 in Metuchen.
