The New Jersey Bankers Association joined association members in the 2016 Bankers Build with Morris Habitat for Humanity. The NJBankers team traded in their suits for the day to assist in the rebuilding of a West Milford home that was damaged.

In Memoriam - Michael J. Gormley

With sadness, we report the passing of Michael J. Gormley, who was the victim of a tragic automobile accident last Thursday, July 14, 2016. Gormley, 60, from Lanoka Harbor was an executive vice president, chief operations officer and chief financial officer at Harmony Bank. The Gormley family will host a celebration of Mike’s life. The memorial celebration will take place on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Forked River Presbyterian Church, 131 N Main St, Forked River, NJ 08731 starting at 2 p.m. Mike’s wife, Lorelle Gormley, is truly appreciative and grateful for the outpouring of support that has been given to her and her family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Michael J. Gormley to the Rotary Club of Jackson, P.O. Box 751, Jackson, NJ 08527 or the Rotary Club of Red Bank, P.O. Box 8444, Red Bank, NJ 07701.

Agencies Issue Final Updates to CRA Q&As
The federal banking agencies issued revised questions and answers on Community Reinvestment Act compliance. In their final guidance, the agencies clarified nine of the 10 proposed Q&As. Overall, the agencies revised six existing Q&As and adopted three new ones. The changes focus on alternative delivery of retail banking services, innovative or flexible lending practices, qualified investments and community development.

Agencies Begin Accepting Diversity Self-Assessments
The Office of Management and Budget has approved the federal banking agencies’ voluntary diversity self-assessment model for financial institutions, the agencies said in a Federal Register filing. The self-assessment is based on diversity and inclusion assessment standards issued by the agencies last summer.

Federal Reserve Bank of New York Empire State Manufacturing Survey Results
The July 2016 Empire State Manufacturing Survey indicates that business activity flattened out for New York manufacturers. The headline general business conditions index fell five points to 0.6. The new orders index and the shipments index both fell to levels not far from zero—a sign that orders and shipments were little changed. Labor market indicators pointed to a small decline in employment levels and hours worked. The prices paid index held steady at 18.7, suggesting that moderate input price increases were continuing, and the prices received index held near zero, indicating that selling prices remained steady. Firms were less optimistic about future conditions compared to last month.

FHFA: Most Eligible for Principal Reduction Are in Three States
More than three quarters of seriously delinquent homeowners who are eligible for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s one-time principal reduction program live in just 10 states, according to figures released by the Federal Housing Finance Agency. More than half of the estimated 30,000 eligible borrowers live in just three states: Florida, New Jersey and New York.

FHLB-NY Announces 2016 Board of Directors Election Schedule

The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York (FHLB-NY) has announced the schedule for the 2016 Board of Directors elections. In total, three Member Directorships – one seat representing New Jersey members, currently held by Jay M. Ford, president & CEO, Crest Savings Bank, and two seats representing New York members - are up for election in 2016. In addition, two Independent Directorships representing the whole District are also up for election.

At its meeting of May 11, 2016, the NJBankers Board of Directors named incumbent Jay M. Ford as the NJBankers’ recommended candidate. Ford has served two terms and is eligible for reelection. While on the Board, he has served as a member of the Executive Committee since January 2015; as Audit Committee Chairman since December 2011 (member since 2008); Vice Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee since August 2012 (member since 2010); and had served as a member of the Risk Committee from March 2013 to December 2014. He is also a former chairman of the New Jersey League of Community Bankers. Ford has worked in the industry for over 45 years and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Society of CPAs.

NJBankers members that are also members of the FHLB-NY are urged to cast their vote for Ford when ballots are mailed on September 30, 2016.
