Jay Ford Re-elected to FHLB-NY Board

The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York announced that Jay M. Ford, president & CEO, Crest Savings Bank, was declared elected to the Board of the FHLB-NY as a Member Director representing New Jersey members for a four year term beginning on January 1, 2017. His current term on the Board expires on December 31, 2016. Mr. Ford was the only candidate accepting nomination for the open seat and therefore no election is necessary. He currently serves as a Member Director on the FHLBNY’s Board and serves as Chair of the Board’s Audit Committee, Vice Chair of the Board’s Strategic Planning Committee, and also serves on the Board’s Executive Committee. Mr. Ford’s 2017 Committee assignments have not yet been determined by the Board.

The Bank also announced that in early October, it will distribute ballots to its eligible New York members for the election that will be held to fill two open New York Member Director seats. In addition, ballots will be sent to all eligible members throughout the District for the election that will be held to fill two open Districtwide Independent Director seats. All of these seats will have four year terms, each commencing on January 1, 2017.  The Member Director seat representing Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands is not up for election this year.

Agencies Issue Fact Sheet on AML, Sanctions Enforcement
The Treasury Department and the federal banking agencies issued a fact sheet to communicate expectations about anti-money laundering and sanctions enforcement. The document also outlined AML supervision and exam processes, enforcement actions by prudential regulators and the intersecting roles of the regulatory agencies and Treasury entities.


CFPB Highlights Role of Banks in Helping Prevent Elder Fraud

Hundreds of communities across the country have developed coordinated local efforts to prevent, detect and respond to elder financial abuse, according to a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau report. The report emphasizes the importance of collaboration among financial institutions, local law enforcement and adult protective services agencies to stem the multi-billion-dollar elder fraud problem.

Fannie, Freddie Issue New URLA Form
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have released the redesigned Uniform Residential Loan Application, the first substantial revision to the form in more than two decades. Changes include a reorganized layout, simplified technology and new data fields, including mobile phone number, email address and military service history. Lenders may begin using the form on Jan. 1, 2018.

FBI Launches Mobile App on Bank Robbers
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has launched a mobile app to make it easier for the public, financial institutions, law enforcement and others to view photos and information, receive alerts and submit tips about bank robbers sought by the FBI. The app, which works with BankRobbers.fbi.gov, allows users to view robbery reports by date, state or other factors and also offers push notifications to be informed of local robberies.

Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s August 2016 Business Leaders Survey
Activity in the region’s service sector declined significantly this month, according to firms responding to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s August 2016 Business Leaders Survey. The survey’s headline business activity index plummeted twenty-five points to -19.9, a multiyear low. The business climate index fell twelve points to -31.3, signaling that respondents generally continued to view the business climate as worse than normal, and to a greater extent than last month. The employment index fell to 2.8, marking a slight increase in employment levels, and the wages index edged up three points to 35.0. The prices paid index held steady at 35.5, signaling that input prices continued to rise at the same pace as the last two months, while the prices received index slipped five points to 1.4, suggesting selling prices were little changed. Indexes assessing the six-month outlook indicated that firms remained somewhat optimistic about future business conditions.

NJBIZ, a statewide business publication, presented the finalists for its annual CFO of the Year Awards for 2016. These awards celebrate the financial executives at all levels who contribute to their companies' successes and the growth of the Garden State economy. Finalists will be honored and winners will be announced Oct. 14 at a special breakfast awards ceremony at The Palace at Somerset Park. Congratulations to Marianne Wade, Investors Bancorp Inc. for making the list!

Annual Golf and Networking Outing Benefits NJBankers Charitable Foundation

At the NJBankers Annual Golf and Network Outing Associate Members stepped up to support Community based organizations and the NJBankers Charitable Foundation.

Merchant e-Solutions sold Mulligans and raised $1,060 that they donated to the NJBankers Charitable Foundation.  A drawing was held for all who purchased Mulligans for a chance to win a gift card and Golf GPS.
