ABA & ICBA Officers, Leaders Meet with Trump at White House
Leadership from the American Bankers Association and the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) met with President Trump at the White House last week for a "listening session" on the challenges that community banks face today and how the regulatory environment can be reformed to promote job creation and economic growth.

Fed Beige Book: Economic Growth Continues
Economic expansion continued across most Federal Reserve districts from late January through mid-February, the Federal Reserve reported in its second Beige Book release of 2017. All of the 12 districts cited modest or moderate growth.

Federal Reserve Bank of New York Business Leaders Survey
Activity in the region’s service sector continued to grow modestly, according to firms responding to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s February 2017 Business Leaders Survey. The survey’s headline business activity index held steady at 6.7. The business climate index moved up to 0.7, signaling that respondents generally viewed the business climate as about normal.

Getting into Washington’s Business — ABA announces first ever Candidate School
The Candidate School is designed to help bankers run for state or federal public office. The nonpartisan school is set for Sept. 13-15, 2017, in Washington, D.C.

Three Million Books And Counting: KPMG Helps Close The Literacy Gap For Children In Low-Income Communities
Two-thirds of children in lower income communities lack access to books – the single biggest barrier to literacy – resulting in low reading proficiency, a key predictor of a child's future educational and economic success. To help bridge this gap, KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, will put more than 150,000 new books into the hands of children in cities across the United States – including the donation of its three millionth book through KPMG's Family for Literacy (KFFL) program – as part of a "Read to Succeed" initiative being conducted in partnership with non-profit social enterprise First Book.
