Jim Meredith Announces Retirement

NJBankers EVP/COO Jim Meredith recently announced that after 23 years with the association, he will be retiring  July 31, 2017. Jim started with the New Jersey Savings League as a Vice President overseeing its education and communications functions and assumed additional responsibilities throughout his tenure. He worked on the successful operational transitions when the League combined with the Savings Bank Association of New Jersey in 1996 and then with the combination with the New Jersey Bankers Association in 2009. Jim and his wife Elaine plan to relocate to Lewes, Delaware, later in the summer. We wish them much happiness as they enter this new phase of their lives.

Women in Banking Conference Knocks Socks Off!

So many conferences have been designed to help women achieve success in business. But the women-led NJBankers Women in Banking Conference is clearly different and the numbers sure prove it!

The 7th annual event drew 500 attendees!

An opportunity to give back to the community is as much a part of the conference as is the opportunity for professional development. This year, Redeem-Her, was the recipient of many donated items from attendees and $5,000 toward their mission to successfully transition women who were recently released from prison, jail, or rehab to become valued and contributing members of society.

Holly Hoffman, the last woman standing on “Survivor Nicaragua” shared her message about never giving up and why choosing how we overcome challenges makes us who we are.

Conference speakers received four standing ovations and comments on the 300 evaluations that were completed (that’s a rate of 60% returned evaluations!) included:

Beginning to end, this conference was outstanding.

     Wonderful/Engaging/Inspirational/Motivating/Educational

Holly was inspirational, well –spoken and identified real life challenges in the workforce and at home.

Attendees came away with memorable words of wisdom including “Learn to be a Tootsie Pop and get to the center of the matter!”

Attendees also came away with adult coloring books! Coloring has been shown to relieve stress and help one refocus though the recommendation was made by Chairwoman Geri Kelly to not color while in a meeting with directors!

Forget getting tired after a big lunch!  A Yoga “7th inning stretch” after lunch got everyone standing up and stretching; another stress relief tactic.
