Federal Reserve Bank of New York Business Leaders Survey
Activity in the region’s service sector showed little change, according to firms responding to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s July 2017 Business Leaders Survey. The survey’s headline business activity index edged down four points to -0.7. The business climate index remained negative at -13.2, signaling that respondents continued to view the business climate as worse than normal. The employment index climbed seven points to 9.6, pointing to an increase in employment levels, and the wages index rose five points to 32.4, suggesting that wages rose at a faster pace than last month.

Capital Bank of New Jersey, the South Jersey community bank owned by hundreds of local stockholders, has declared a special cash dividend to its stockholders. On August 31, 2017, a dividend of 17.5 cents per share will be paid to stockholders of record on August 21.

First Choice Loan Services and Berkshire Bank Home Lending Join Forces
First Choice Loan Services Inc., a Berkshire Bank Company, and Boston-based Berkshire Bank Home Lending announced that they will merge their mortgage lending platforms together.

Valley National Bancorp Announces Expansion of Florida Presence; Entry into Alabama
In a merger of two banks with a similar focus on personal service and community involvement, Valley National Bancorp (“Valley”) (NYSE:VLY) announced that it is expanding its Florida presence and moving into Alabama by acquiring USAmeriBancorp, Inc. (“USAB”) (OTC Pink: USAB).

Valley National Bancorp Second Quarter Earnings
Valley National Bancorp (NYSE:VLY), the holding company for Valley National Bank, reported net income for the second quarter of 2017 of $50.1 million, or $0.18 per diluted common share, as compared to the second quarter of 2016 earnings of $39.0 million, or $0.15 per diluted common share, and net income of $46.1 million, or $0.17 per diluted common share, for the first quarter of 2017.

Wells Fargo Names New Community Bank Presidents for New Jersey
Wells Fargo & Co. has named four region bank presidents for New Jersey, reflecting a recent reorganization of the financial firm’s community banking structure.
