Lipkin Named NJBankers Recommended Candidate for FHLB-NY Board

At its meeting of May 17, 2017, the NJBankers Board of Directors named incumbent Gerald L. Lipkin, chairman & CEO, Valley National Bank, as the NJBankers’ recommended candidate for reelection to the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York’s Board of Directors. Mr. Lipkin will be completing his first term on the Board on December 31, 2017 and is eligible for reelection to another four-year term. He is currently serving on the Board’s Risk, Strategic Planning and Compensation Committees. Mr. Lipkin's background includes having served as a bank regulator (OCC) for 13 years, 5 of which were in senior administrator positions, along with 42 years of commercial banking experience. He is also a former chairman of the New Jersey Bankers Association. The NJBankers Board of Directors urges members that are also members of the FHLB-NY to support Mr. Lipkin’s candidacy when voting takes place this month.

 
NJBankers Welcomes New Member of Board of Directors

NJBankers is pleased to announce that Greg White, Wells Fargo’s Northern New Jersey Community Banking Region Bank President, has joined the NJBankers Board of Directors. He replaces Fred Bertoldo who now services the New York market for the Bank. White is a 21 year industry veteran with extensive banking experience across multiple complex and diverse geographies. He previously served as Wells Fargo’s regional president responsible for retail banking in Greater Pennsylvania. All of us at NJBankers welcome his expertise on our Board.

FDIC Issues Latest Summary of Deposits
The FDIC released the results of its annual survey of branch office deposits for all FDIC-insured institutions. The FDIC’s Summary of Deposits provides deposit totals for each of the more than 89,000 domestic offices operated by more than 5,700 FDIC-insured institutions. The latest data are as of June 30, 2017.

Fed Survey: Americans’ Financial Well-Being Improved from Mid-2010s
Families’ financial conditions generally improved, and at a faster rate than in previous years, from 2013 to 2016, according to the recently released Federal Reserve’s triennial Survey of Consumer Finances. Unlike the previous three-year survey period from 2010 to 2013, when incomes fell in all brackets except the highest-earning 10 percent, incomes for 2013 to 2016 rose in all brackets.

Capital Bank Announces $2 Million Stock Repurchase Program
Capital Bank of New Jersey has announced today a stock repurchase offer for up to 3.9% of its outstanding shares. In a mailing sent to its stockholders, Capital Bank has offered to purchase up to 100,000 shares of its own stock, at a purchase price of $20.00 per share, totaling up to $2 million. The $20.00 per share price is double the $10.00 price the bank’s original stockholders paid in 2007. The offer is set to expire no later than February 28, 2018, but shares tendered will be purchased on a “first come, first served” basis.

Columbia Bank Announces The Appointment Of Tony Rose To 1st Senior Vice President, Marketing Director
Thomas J. Kemly, President and CEO of Columbia Bank, announced that Tony Rose has been appointed 1st Senior Vice President, Marketing Director.  In his new position, he continues to manage the bank’s Marketing Department including all branding and advertising solutions, research, public relations, special events and digital/social media.  He also oversees the bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Department.

Helping Victims of Hurricane Irma

In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, the Florida Bankers Association recently released tips on how community bankers can contribute to relief efforts. FBA President and CEO Alex Sanchez wrote that financial donations can be directed to the state’s Florida Disaster Fund as well as the American Red Cross. He also encouraged those who wish to volunteer to participate via Volunteer Florida or the American Red Cross.

We've had a number of inquiries about the horrible events in Texas as a result of Hurricane Harvey. We join with our friends and colleagues at the Texas Bankers Association, the Independent Bankers Association of Texas, the ICBA and the ABA in encouraging bankers who want to help to make a donation to the relief fund at www.texasbankers.com/harvey to donate by credit card or check. TBA is absorbing all costs so 100% of proceeds will go to relief efforts.

 
SBA Seeks Temporary Loan Processors for Harvey Relief

The SBA is in need of loan specialists and damage verifiers and is asking banks to consider lending staff to help meet the extraordinary demand. It is anticipated that personnel would go to specific SBA Centers however, if necessary, on a case by case basis, the SBA could work with entities that are interested in hosting personnel on site at their own locations to remotely support the effort. How to Help Hurricane Maria Victims

With Puerto Rico facing a daunting recovery from the massive destruction of Hurricane Maria, NJBankers and ABA are sharing resources to support Puerto Rico’s recovery. ABA consulted with the Puerto Rico Bankers Association and donations can be sent to United for Puerto Rico, a fund established by Puerto Rican First Lady Beatriz Rossello in collaboration with the private sector to provide post-hurricane relief. Federal Home Loan Bank of New York Makes $1 Billion in Disaster Relief Funding Available
In response to the severe and extensive damage caused by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York has made $1 billion in disaster relief funding available to its members to help rebuild communities in FEMA-designated disaster areas in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Florida, Texas and the Southeast. The funds are being made available by the FHLBNY through its Community Lending Programs to be used as both immediate gap financing and longer-term funding to restore homes and businesses. The FHLBNY also donated an additional $500,000 to hurricane relief efforts.
