Atlantic Stewardship Bank introduced a new way to save with an alternative money market account earning the Fed Funds Rate. In the U.S., the federal funds rate is the interest rate at which depository institutions, like banks, lend reserve balances to other similar institutions overnight.


Berkshire Hills Completes Commerce Bancshares Acquisition
Berkshire Hills Bancorp, Inc. (NYSE:  BHLB) has completed the acquisition of Commerce Bancshares Corp. and the merger of Commerce Bank & Trust Company into Berkshire Bank, effective at the close of business on October 13, 2017.

Revised OCC Exam Policy Aligns Ratings with CRA Purposes
The OCC has changed its Community Reinvestment Act supervision policies to ensure a “logical nexus” between banks’ CRA-related activities and CRA performance evaluation ratings and to give “full consideration” to banks’ efforts to take corrective action.

Treasury Issues Recommendations on Capital Markets Regulatory Reform
As part of its ongoing response to President Trump’s executive order outlining core principles for financial regulation, the Treasury Department issued an extensive report outlining recommended regulatory changes to maintain the vibrancy of U.S. capital markets.

Six in Ten Consumers Trust Banks Most to Safeguard Payments
A majority of consumers across all age groups trust banks the most to keep their payments safe, according to a recent ABA/Morning Consult poll. Fifty-nine percent of consumers said they trusted banks the most to safeguard their payments, compared with just 12 percent who said they trust alternative payment providers like Apple, Paypal or Venmo most.

Survey: Many Community Banks Have Online Loan Applications in the Works
On the consumer loan front, according to a Fed/CSBS survey, 83 percent of community banks continue to offer single-family fixed-rate mortgages, although three percent said they plan to exit the business. More than nine in 10 offer auto loans, 79 percent offer home equity lines of credit and 82 percent offer small-dollar unsecured loans.

Survey: Community Bank Compliance Costs Growing Fast, Driving M&A
According to the same Fed/CSBS survey, compliance costs continue to grow dramatically at community banks, the. Compliance accounted for a greater share of personnel, data processing, legal, accounting and consulting costs in 2016.

FDIC to Host Teleconference on New HMDA Requirements
As banks prepare to comply with the 2015 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act amendments next year, the FDIC announced that it will host a teleconference on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 1:30 p.m. EDT to discuss the new requirements.

CFPB Updates TILA-RESPA Compliance Guide
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau recently released an updated version of its TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure rule compliance guide for small entities. The updated guide incorporates amendments and clarifications of fees and transfer taxes.

Medium Term Inflation Expectations Rise; Consumers’ Outlook Less Optimistic in September
Results from the September 2017 Survey of Consumer Expectations show increased pessimism. In particular, expectations about earnings, spending, income growth, home prices, financial situations and the stock market all deteriorated.

Reports show Hispanic businesses are drawing banks’ notice
There are at least 3,000 new Hispanic businesses in the state since last year, and the $709 billion sector is attracting more interest from large banks, according to new reports.

Colliers: Strong Q3 for industrial, office real estate in north, central N.J.
Northern and central New Jersey real estate had a robust third quarter due to continued historic industrial market fundamentals and measurable office sector improvement, according to Colliers International NJ’s latest regional Market Snapshot.

Fifty-one State Bankers Associations, including NJBankers, have written to members of the Senate Banking Committee encouraging lawmakers to continue pursuing the goal of bipartisan regulatory reform.

Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts Seeking Individuals to Serve on Their Board of Trustees

Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts are looking for community minded individuals seeking to serve on their board of trustees,  and in particular have a need for someone with a strong financial background (CFO, Controller, CPA, etc.)  whose involvement would serve to inform and assist us in that area. Wharton is New Jersey’s largest independent non-profit community performing arts center serving over 1,400 students through a range of classes and ensembles including the 14 ensembles of the New Jersey Youth Symphony which serve 500 students in grades 3 - 12.

The Paterson Music Project is Wharton’s El Sistema-inspired program where we are teaching instrumental music to over 300 students in after school programs who would otherwise not have access to the same. Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts is located in Berkeley Heights, New Providence and Paterson, NJ and reaches students from 13 counties. All of WIPA’s extraordinary faculty members and conductors hold degrees in their teaching specialty and have been vetted and trained to enable our students to achieve their personal best.

Improvement Authority Acquires Vineland Location, Expands Professional Complex
Capital Bank arranged participations with area institutions, including Century Savings Bank

The Cumberland County Improvement Authority (CCIA) has acquired the property and facilities located at 71 Park Avenue with plans to upgrade the complex formerly occupied in large part by NFI Industries.  CCIA officials says the parcel and its 332,000 square-foot multi-purpose facilities will enable the Authority to improve and create sustainability in this key Vineland location adjacent to the new 275 Delsea Drive Professional Office Complex which the Improvement Authority completed earlier this year.
