FDIC Announces Personnel Changes
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has announced several personnel changes.

Federal Reserve Bank of New York Business Leaders Survey
Activity in the region’s service sector continued to expand modestly, according to firms responding to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s October 2017 Business Leaders Survey. The survey’s headline business activity index moved down four points to 5.7, indicating a slower pace of growth than in September. The business climate index remained negative at -5.7, a sign that firms, on balance, continued to regard the business climate as worse than normal.


Hensarling to Retire from Congress
House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) has announced that he will leave Congress at the end of his current term. Elected to represent the Dallas area in 2002, Hensarling took the gavel of the Financial Services Committee in 2013. He would not have been eligible for another term as committee chairman under current House rules.

New Home Sales Reach Highest Level in 10 Years
Sales of new homes jumped 18.9 percent in September, landing at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 667,000 according to the Commerce Department. September’s figure was up 17 percent from a year prior and the highest level since October 2007.

OCC Updates Guidance on Bank Supervision
The OCC has updated several booklets of its Comptroller's Handbook related to bank enforcement actions and connected matters. The updates provide guidelines on consistent terminology, communication, format, follow-up, analysis, documentation and reporting of bank enforcement.

Study Shows Point-of-Sale Mobile Payments Growth Stalls
Adoption of mobile payments at retail points of sale has stalled and possibly declined, according to a new study from Auriemma Consulting Group. Use of top POS mobile payment apps Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Android Pay among eligible users fell from 30 percent at this time last year to 25 percent.

PCBB Announces Comprehensive CECL Solution for Financial Institutions
A recent study by PCBB found that only 11 percent of CFOs of financial institutions (under $10B in assets) believe they are prepared for the CECL transition. Improvement Authority Acquires Vineland Location, Expands Professional Complex
Capital Bank arranged participations with area institutions, including Century Savings Bank

The Cumberland County Improvement Authority (CCIA) has acquired the property and facilities located at 71 Park Avenue with plans to upgrade the complex formerly occupied in large part by NFI Industries.  CCIA officials say the parcel and its 332,000 square-foot multi-purpose facilities will enable the Authority to improve and create sustainability in this key Vineland location adjacent to the new 275 Delsea Drive Professional Office Complex which the Improvement Authority completed earlier this year. Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts Seeking Individuals to Serve on Their Board of Trustees

Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts are looking for community minded individuals seeking to serve on their board of trustees,  and in particular have a need for someone with a strong financial background (CFO, Controller, CPA, etc.)  whose involvement would serve to inform and assist us in that area. Wharton is New Jersey’s largest independent non-profit community performing arts center serving over 1,400 students through a range of classes and ensembles including the 14 ensembles of the New Jersey Youth Symphony which serve 500 students in grades 3 - 12.

The Paterson Music Project is Wharton’s El Sistema-inspired program where we are teaching instrumental music to over 300 students in after school programs who would otherwise not have access to the same. Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts is located in Berkeley Heights, New Providence and Paterson, NJ and reaches students from 13 counties. All of WIPA’s extraordinary faculty members and conductors hold degrees in their teaching specialty and have been vetted and trained to enable our students to achieve their personal best.
