BankHorizons a Successful Event that also Featured Survivor Alum Holly Hoffman


Attendees of Bank Horizons enjoyed a day learning about emerging opportunities and innovative solutions for the banking industry. This year, Holly Hoffman, the last woman standing on Survivor: Nicaragua, was the emcee for the day. The event was held at the beautiful Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch.

New Leaders Honored at Award Ceremony and Gala
The night before BankHorizons, New Leaders in Banking are honored at a Gala celebrating their accomplishments and dedication to their banks and the banking industry.



The New Leaders Awards recognize the rising stars of the NJ banking industry as nominated by their banks. This year, 15 up and coming stars received awards at a Gala that celebrates their accomplishments. Not pictured Ed Galan.

NJBankers Press Release featured in ROI: NJBankers strongly oppose tax reform plan
The New Jersey Bankers Association is urging New Jersey members of Congress to vote “No” on the proposed tax reform bills in Congress. The bills, are currently being reviewed by a Joint Conference Committee of House and Senate representatives. Senate Republican leaders said Friday at midday that they have enough votes to pass the bill. NJBankers President and CEO John McWeeney, Jr. said the content of the bills unfairly impacts New Jersey residents.

Fed Survey: Women-Owned Businesses Face Funding, Profitability Challenges
Majority women-owned firms are more likely than their male counterparts to face funding and profitability challenges according to new data from the Federal Reserve Banks of NY and Kansas City. Women-led companies were less successful at receiving financing: when applying for business loans, they received funding 47 percent of the time. Men-owned businesses, meanwhile, had a success rate of 61 percent.

Trump Names Goodfriend to Fed Board
President Donald Trump has nominated economist Marvin Goodfriend to serve as a Federal Reserve governor, in his latest move to reshape the central bank.

Beige Book: Economic Growth Continues, Signals Rate Hike
Economic expansion continued across all 12 Federal Reserve districts at a modest to moderate pace in October through mid-November, the Federal Reserve reported in its eighth and final Beige Book release of 2017.

FHFA Updates Progress on the Single Security Initiative and Common Securitization Platform
The Federal Housing Finance Agency has issued an update to “plan and prepare” for the forthcoming implementation of the Common Securitization Platform and Single Security Initiative, part of FHFA’s 2018-22 strategic plan for its oversight of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks that takes effect in 2019. Included in the update were materials to help plan and prepare implementation, such as the Market Adoption Playbook, an educational video and an implementation schedule.

Fed Proposes Changes to Reg A
The Federal Reserve has issued a proposal to amend Regulation A which covers extensions of credit by Federal Reserve banks. The proposal would make technical adjustments that reflect the expiration of the Term Asset Backed Securities Loan Facility program, among others. Comments are due 30 days after the proposal is published in the Federal Register.

The NJBankers Leadership Academy welcomes the 18 bankers who will participate in the Emerging Leaders Program in 2018! Financial Institutions Sued for Imposing Overdraft Fees When Uber and Lyft Charges Overdraw Accounts

A wave of class action lawsuits have been filed across the country against financial institutions in recent months with a rather unique claim: that institutions have been improperly imposing overdraft charges on customers when Uber and Lyft charges made by debit cards overdraw customers’ accounts.  Associate Member Cullen and Dykman has prepared an advisory about the lawsuits.
