ABA Government Relations Summit Recap

The 2018 ABA Government Relations Summit, from April 25th – 27th, was an opportunity to advocate for the legislative and regulatory changes banks need to better serve their customers. Incoming NJBankers Chairman Bill Moss of Two River Community Bank led a delegation of 19 that met with policymakers at the Summit. This year, we were excited that five bankers from the NJBankers Emerging Leaders Program joined us to learn more about NJBankers advocacy efforts.

Participants had a chance to network with 1,200 industry peers from across the country. High profile speakers included Joseph Otting, Comptroller of the Currency; Nick Mulvaney, Acting Director, CFPB; and Brett Baer, host of Special Report with Bret Baier on the Fox News Channel.

Many thanks to M&T Bank for sponsoring our delegation dinner and to Riker Danzig for sponsoring our beverages.

Portfolio Power
An article by Jim Reber of ICBA Securities discusses if the Barbell structure may be the right regimen.  As yields continue to set cyclical highs during 2018, many community bankers have asked us questions about what to invest in for their next purchases. Some of them have been surprised to hear an answer that I’ve been giving for the better part of this decade, even though absolute yields and the shape of the curve look nothing like the 2010s.
