New Jersey Bankers Association
Warren Hill Award Presented to Echavarria and Feldman

The New Jersey League established the Warren Hill Award to honor Warren Hill, the New Jersey League's president from 1966 through 1975.  The award is bestowed upon a current or former NJBankers' committee member who has demonstrated an overall commitment to meeting the mission of the committee.

This year, there were two recipients of the award - Tracey Echavarria, VP, Residential Lending, Northfield Bank and Tammara Feldman, Loan Servicing Manager, Amboy Bank.

Congratulations to Tracey and Tammara for being recognized for all their contributions to the Residential Lending Loan Servicing Committee.

New and Improved! Why did you miss it? Senior Management Conference Wows Attendees

The NJBankers Senior Management Conference was refreshed this year with a whole new look and feel. The Conference was held over two days rather than three this year. Held at the Borgata Hotel & Casino, the Conference began with networking opportunities at the NJBankers golf tournament and ended with a lively reception. Unfortunately, the fishing excursion was canceled due to the weather but that did not dampen spirits.
The next day, for the singing of the National Anthem, attendees were treated to a rendition by Loriann Mancuso, Regional Business Relationship Manager for Associate Member COCC. What a voice! Listen here!

Attendees then enjoyed a morning of presentations at the General Session and then an afternoon of Concurrent Sessions. After break-out sessions, attendees returned to the General Session for the remainder of the program.

Completion of evaluations is extremely important to NJBankers for planning Conferences that are on topic and meaningful for members. We especially appreciated the evaluations that were completed for this Conference because the format and content was refreshed. We ran a contest to encourage the submission of evaluations. The prize was a free registration for the member and a spouse to attend our Annual Conference which will be held at the BroAdmoor in Colorado Springs next year. This is a $1,500 value! From all the evaluations that we received, we are delighted to announce that Geri Kelly, Executive Vice President and Human Resources Officer of Columbia Bank, is our winner. We look forward to seeing you in Colorado, Geri! Congratulations!

Just take a look at some highlights and see what you missed if you didn’t attend this conference!

Proposed Revisions to the Consolidated Reports of Condition and Income and Other Regulatory Reports
The FDIC, the Federal Reserve, and the OCC, under the auspices of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC), have proposed several changes to the Call Report. The changes reflect the coming implementation of the Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) accounting framework, as well as changes to the treatment of high-volatility commercial real estate and reciprocal deposits that were included in the S. 2155 regulatory reform law. Comments on the proposed changes are due by Nov. 27.

FDIC Study Indicates that Banks’ Lending to Small Businesses is Significantly Underestimated
Banks lend significantly more to small businesses than is captured by commonly used proxies, according to a major FDIC study. In 2015, the agency found, small business commercial and industrial lending by banks was understated by 12 percent, or $37 billion -- while small business C&I loans by small banks (which it defined as banks with less than $10 billion in assets) were understated by 29 percent. Community banks were especially important in small business lending, holding 42 percent of small business loans but just 13 percent of all industry assets.
