German Food and (Birch) Beer Savored at Oktoberfest Celebration with Associate Members

Lederhosen and Dirndls were not compulsory at the NJBankers Oktoberfest Celebration of new and long-time Associate Members. After an orientation that introduced NJBankers staff and resources, Associate Members were treated to a lunch of German treats and beer (birch beer that is)! We appreciate the support and expertise that Associate Members provide to NJBankers and our members. A good time was had by all!

fTLD Announces Auction of Common Reserved .bank Names
fTLD Registry Services, the company created to oversee the .bank domain, is allocating some of the domain names from its reserved names list via auctions occurring throughout October. Prior to the launch of .bank in May 2015, fTLD reserved numerous domain names that were not available for immediate registration, including those that were designated as “common community names” (for example, FirstCommunity.bank). Auctions will be closing within the coming weeks tomorrow Oct. 18th  and Oct. 25th.  

CFPB Releases Interpretive and Procedural Rule on Partial Exemptions from HMDA Requirements
The CFPB released an interpretive and procedural rule to implement and clarify amendments to HMDA made by the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act. The rule provides further guidance on implementation of the partial exemptions available to qualifying institutions.

Federal Agencies Issue  Joint Statement on Banks and CUs Sharing Resources to Improve BSA Compliance
The federal depository institutions regulators and the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) have issued a statement to address instances in which certain banks and credit unions may decide to enter into collaborative arrangements to share resources to manage their Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and anti-money laundering (AML) obligations more efficiently and effectively.

Fed Survey Indicates that Payment Fraud Remains Rare
According to the Federal Reserve Payments Study just released, payment fraud remains rare, representing small fractions of 1 percent of the total number and the total value of payments. The study did show, however, that fraud rates edged up between 2012 and 2015 on certain kinds of card transactions but held steady or declined from 2015 to 2016.

Agencies Release Updated FAQs on Appraisal Regulations
In response to recent questions concerning appraisal regulations and guidance, the federal banking agencies have issued a set of FAQs in order to offer additional clarification.

First Bank appoints new chief deposit officer
First Bank announced it has appointed Emilio Cooper its new chief deposit officer and executive vice president.
Cooper has more than 20 years of experience in the banking industry. He will be responsible for the bank’s retail, small business, municipal and commercial deposit areas.

Investors Bank Expands Equipment Finance Group, Adds Two Sr. Execs
The Investors Bank Equipment Finance (IBEF) has appointed two senior-level executives to the group. The executives are Senior Vice President & Business Development Officer Christopher S. McManus and Asset Management Leader Brandon J. Smith.

Columbia Financial, Inc. Announces Appointments of Joseph F. Dempsey and Allyson Schlesinger
Columbia Financial, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLBK) (the “Company”) announced that Joseph Dempsey has been appointed as Executive Vice President, Head of Commercial Banking and Allyson Schlesinger has been appointed as Executive Vice President, Head of Consumer Banking for Columbia Bank, the Company’s wholly-owned banking subsidiary (the “Bank”). 

United Roosevelt Savings Bank Appoints Kenneth R. Totten to Chairman
URSB reported that URSB Chairman Michael Kepich passed away on July 26th. At the Bank’s August 23, 2018 Board of Directors meeting, current President and CEO Kenneth R. Totten was appointed Chairman of United Roosevelt Savings Bank.  Totten was also appointed Chairman of United Roosevelt Bancorp and United Roosevelt MHC. 
Current Director, Dr. Garry Yee, DDS, PA, was appointed Vice Chairman of United Roosevelt Savings Bank.  Dr. Yee was also appointed Vice Chairman of United Roosevelt Bancorp and United Roosevelt MHC.

Through an initiative of the New Jersey Bankers Association, employees of Provident Bank recently visited Eva’s Village in Paterson, NJ.  While there, they toured the facility, met guests, and volunteered to serve meals and clean the community kitchen.  Eva's Village is a faith-based, nonprofit, comprehensive social services organization whose mission is to provide care and support for people who are struggling with poverty, hunger, homelessness, and addiction.  Provident Bank is a proud supporter of Eva’s Village.
