NJBankers Celebrates Leadership Academy Emerging Leaders Graduation

NJBankers celebrated the graduation of students who completed the NJBankers Leadership Academy, Emerging Leaders program, with a ceremony at the APA Hotel in Woodbridge, NJ. The graduates completed a nine month blended learning program where they were required to attend full day programs, an online program and were required to practically apply newly acquired skills as part of the next learning session. Students completed a “leadership challenge” project to foster their own development, benefit their financial institution, and the banking industry. Congratulations to all!

SBA 7(a) Program Switches Fixed Base Rate from Libor to Prime
With the viability of the London Interbank Offered Rate uncertain beyond the end of 2021, the Small Business Administration is changing the base rate for fixed-rate loans in its popular 7(a) program to the prime rate.

FHFA Announces 2019 Multifamily Lending Caps for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has announced that the 2019 multifamily lending caps for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) will be $35 billion for each Enterprise, unchanged from the 2018 caps.  The caps are based on FHFA’s projections of the overall size of the 2019 multifamily originations market, which FHFA expects to be relatively flat compared to the market in 2018.  In setting the caps, FHFA also considers multifamily market estimates developed by industry participants and analysts.

Fed to Host Webinar on Fair Lending Hot Topics
The Federal Reserve will host an interagency webinar on Monday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. EST, to discuss emerging fair lending issues and hot topics. Presenters from seven agencies will be on hand to discuss a host of topics, including redlining, risk-based assessment, marital status discrimination and disability discrimination.

Fed Bank Supervision Report Illustrates Industry Health
The Federal Reserve has released a report on its regulatory and supervisory activities for banking companies demonstrating the health and soundness of the banking industry. Figures in the report show that industry profitability ratios are at their highest levels since 2007. The report also outlined upcoming supervisory priorities for firms in different Fed supervisory portfolios.

Japanese Bankers Visit Two River Community Bank

On November 5th, a delegation of bankers from the Tajima Shinkin Bank and the Banshu Shinkin Bank in Japan visited Two River Community Bank to learn more about the banking industry in the U.S.  Leading the conversation (through a translator of course) were NJBankers Chairman William D. Moss, Two River Community Bank Chairman, President and CEO; EVP/COO Anthony A. Mero; EVP/Senior Loan Officer Alan B. Turner; and VP/Controller Vincent N. Tozzi. The delegation asked about the NJ economy, community banking in the U.S. and lending topics. As is said, “Share your smile with the world. It’s a symbol of friendship and peace”.

JPMorgan Chase is investing $1 million into New Jersey-based nonprofit Rising Tide Capital for it to expand nationally and share its model of supporting entrepreneurs.

Magyar Bank Chairman Receives Distinguished Citizen Award From Boy Scouts of America
Magyar Bank announced that Tom Lankey, Chairman of the Board of Magyar Bank, and Magyar Bank’s Parent Company, Magyar Bancorp, received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Boy Scouts of America at their annual gala held recently at the Heldrich Hotel in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

MB Mutual Holding Company Announces Completion of Merger
MB Mutual Holding Company (“MB MHC”), the holding company for MB Bancorp, Inc. (“MB Bancorp”) and Manasquan Bank, has announced that it has completed its previously announced merger of Metuchen, MHC, the holding company for Metuchen Bancorp, Inc. and Metuchen Savings Bank, with and into MB MHC, effective October 31, 2018.


Northfield Bank names new SVP, senior credit officer

Northfield Bank, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Northfield Bancorp Inc., announced that it has named Carmine Abbate its new senior vice president and senior credit officer.


Moran Joins Provident Bank as Executive Vice President, Director of Retail Banking
Provident Bank announced that Josephine Moran of Newtown, Conn. has joined the bank as Executive Vice President and Director of Retail Banking. 

SB One Bancorp Reports A 67% Increase in Net Income And Declared A Cash Dividend
SB One Bancorp (the “Company”) (Nasdaq: SBBX), the holding company for SB One Bank (the “Bank”), reported net income of $3.3 million, or $0.42 per basic share and $0.41 per diluted share, for the quarter ended September 30, 2018, an increase of 67%, as compared to $2.0 million, or $0.33 per basic and diluted share, for the same period last year.  

TD to fund $6M for veterans housing
TD Bank has provided the Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative Inc. and Peabody Properties Inc. a $6 million construction loan for the expansion of a Basking Ridge Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing community for homeless and at-risk veterans.

Two River Community Bank inks V.P., commercial loan officer
Tinton Falls-based Two River Community Bank announced it has added Jeff Halverstadt as vice president and commercial loan officer serving Central and North Jersey.

Through an initiative of the New Jersey Bankers Association, employees of First Hope Bank recently visited Eva’s Village in Paterson, NJ.  While there, they toured the facility, met guests, and volunteered to serve meals and clean the community kitchen.  Eva's Village is a faith-based, nonprofit, comprehensive social services organization whose mission is to provide care and support for people who are struggling with poverty, hunger, homelessness, and addiction.  First Hope Bank is a proud supporter of Eva’s Village.
