NJBankers Rising Star Award Winners

NJBankers created the Emerging Leaders Rising Star Awards to recognize individuals who have the potential to become the future leaders of the Garden State banking industry. These Rising Stars enjoyed a celebratory Award Dinner at the Stone House at Stirling Ridge.
 
Winners were selected by a panel of independent judges that included Tom Bergeron, Editor, ROI-NJ, a statewide business publication; Rosanne Casiere, Owner, RMC Consulting, and a seasoned Human Resources specialist and executive recruiter; Keith German, CD Lender/CRA Officer, Fulton Bank of New Jersey and a graduate of the NJBankers Emerging Leaders program; William Nowik, Principle, Wolf & Co., an Internal Audit Outsourcing Firm that was a sponsor for the evening of the dinner; and Dr. Cynthia Rowan, President, Performance Management Solutions, who is a seasoned educator and an instructor for the NJBankers Leadership Academy among other programs.

Beige Book: Economic Activity Continues at Modest to Moderate Pace
The economy continued to grow across the Federal Reserve districts at a modest to moderate pace, according to the Federal Reserve in its final Beige Book release of 2018. Consumer spending held steady on balance. New home construction and existing home sales declined or held steady, while commercial construction and leasing increased or remained flat.

FDIC Announces Actions to Promote a Transparent, Streamlined, and Accountable Deposit Insurance Application Process
The FDIC has released multiple initiatives and resources related to the deposit insurance application process for organizers of de novo banks and to promote a more transparent, streamlined and accountable process for all applications. The FDIC is seeking comment on all aspects of the deposit insurance application process. Through an RFI, the FDIC is soliciting feedback on ways it can support the continuing evolution of emerging technology and Fintech companies; aspects of the application process that may discourage potential applications; possible changes to the application process for traditional community bank proposals; and suggestions for improving the effectiveness, efficiency, or transparency of the application process.

Survey: Data Privacy Growing as Concern; Banks Seen as Trusted
Nearly three-quarters of Americans said they are more concerned about their data privacy than they were a year before, according to a survey conducted by software company SAS. Sixty-four percent said they feel their data is less secure today than it was in years past. Consistent with other survey findings, banking was one of the top industries trusted to protect personal data, with 46 percent saying they were “very confident” or “extremely confident” that banks are keeping their data secure.

Fintech firm Cross River raises $100M in funding
Cross River Bank, a Fort Lee-based fintech firm, has raised $100 million in its latest funding round, it announced recently. KKR, a New York-based investment firm, led the round with a $75 million equity investment.

OceanFirst announces senior leadership team appointments
OceanFirst Bank announced three members of its senior leadership team have been promoted.
The appointments will all be effective Jan. 1, 2019 and are as follows: Joseph J. Lebel to chief operating officer; Joseph R. Iantosca to chief information officer; and Michele Estep to executive vice president and chief administrative officer.

Investors Bank announces leadership changes
Investors Bank announced two leadership changes.
Paul Kalamaras has been named executive vice president and chief risk officer of Investors Bancorp and Investors Bank and Bill Brown has been appointed chief retail banking officer of the company and the bank.
