Federal Reserve Bank of New York Releases Business Leaders Survey
Activity in the region’s service sector continued to grow modestly, according to firms responding to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s April 2019 Business Leaders Survey. The survey’s headline business activity index was little changed at 10.9. The business climate index hovered around zero again this month, edging up three points to 1.8, indicating that firms generally regarded the business climate as close to normal.

Survey: Small Business Financing Demand Picks Up; Success Rates Hold Steady
Small businesses’ profitability and their success applying for financing held steady from 2017 to 2018, according to the latest Small Business Credit Survey—a joint effort by the 12 regional Federal Reserve Banks.

Agencies Invite Comment on Modifications to Resolution Plan Requirements
The Federal Reserve and the FDIC have invited public comment on a proposal modifying their resolution plan requirements for large banking firms. The proposal would keep existing resolution plan expectations in place for the largest firms, while reducing requirements for smaller firms that pose less risk.

FDIC Seeks Comment on New Approaches to Insured Depository Institution Resolution Planning
The Board of Directors of the FDIC has approved an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) seeking comment on ways to tailor and improve the agency's rule requiring certain insured depository institutions (IDIs) to submit resolution plans (the "IDI Rule").
 
OCC Issues Revised Interagency Examination Procedures
The examination procedures were developed by members of FFIEC and reflect recent amendments to the HMDA rule (Regulation C) as well as the Interpretive and Procedural Rule (2018 rule) to implement and clarify requirements of section 104(a) of the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act, which added partial exemptions from HMDA for certain covered institutions.

Fewer than half of investors say they are “more confident” about their ability to save for retirement than they were 10 years ago.  

 
Bank Accounts and the Power of Attorney Designation

A power of attorney is a useful document for people to appoint someone to handle their financial affairs if, for some reason, they cannot do so themselves.  It is one of the three important documents prepared by attorneys for their estate planning clients.  This document allows the “agent” or “attorney-in-fact” identified in the document, to sign checks, open and close accounts, sell real estate, sign tax returns and other financial acts, on behalf of the “principal”, the person signing the document.

More than 9,800 bankers hosted financial education events across the country this week in celebration of Teach Children to Save Day today. Bankers will teach students the fundamentals of financial literacy, including the basics of saving, how to create a budget and how to distinguish needs from wants.

Spencer Savings Bank announced that it has made a $30,000 donation to help those who have been affected by the Marcal plant fire.
 
TD Bank takes home top 2018 NJ SBA lending honors
During the U.S. Small Business Administration New Jersey district office’s 2018 fiscal year, TD Bank, a Cherry Hill-based lender, approved 851 loans for $90 million to small businesses in New Jersey, making it – for the fifth consecutive year – the office’s top lender.

Lakeland Bank Colleague Joins South Street Youth Center Foundation Board of Trustees

Lakeland Bank announced that Alethea Batts, Senior Vice President, Learning and Development was recently appointed to the board of trustees for the Second Street Youth Center (SSYC) Foundation, Inc. in Plainfield, N.J.

Magyar Bank Announces New Hire
Magyar Bank announced that Dan Badea, of Freehold, joined the Bank as Vice President, Commercial Loan Officer. Badea will be based in the Bank’s Headquarters building in New Brunswick and has over 30 years of banking experience. 

Timothy C. Harrison Named Chairman of the Northfield Bank Foundation
The Northfield Bank Foundation announced that Timothy C. Harrison has been named as Chairman of its board, succeeding Susan Lamberti who will remain on the board of directors.

NJCC Recruiting volunteers for the Jobs for New Jersey Graduates (JNJG) Career Development Conference
This annual event brings together over 150 JNJG students from Vineland, Camden, New Brunswick, Newark and Carteret to engage in friendly competitions that showcase the skills they have developed in 11 categories.  The day starts at 8:45 am for our business volunteers who will receive training on the competitive events and rubric prior to the arrival of the students at 9:30.  Judging begins at 10:00 and concludes at 1:00.  The awards ceremony runs from 1:00 to 2:00 and then the students are dismissed.  Breakfast and lunch are provided.
