Last week, members from across the country met in Washington, D.C., for NMHC’s 2017 Fall Board of Directors and Advisory Committee Meeting. The fall meeting is always heavy on politics and policy, and this year’s program included discussions with more than 15 members of Congress, including Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. But that wasn’t all.

Roughly 100 members came to town early to participate in the first NMHC Leadership Forum, a half-day event focused on diversity and inclusion as critical drivers of continued business success. We also brought back our popular Night Out at the Ballpark event and hosted a rooftop reception at the Newseum, where members networked to stunning views of the Capitol.

Research and innovation were big business themes, with AOL-founder Steve Case and J.D. Vance, investor and author of Hillbilly Elegy, leading a conversation about their new initiative to invest in promising tech companies outside of established urban tech hubs.
