Multifamily Unit Size Increases

After falling for two straight years, new starts data from the Census Bureau show average and median square footages have ticked up to 1,225 and 1,131 square feet in 2013, similar to sizes seen pre-boom in the early 2000s. This compares with the 2012 figures of 1,126 and 1,051 square feet, respectively, the lowest figures since the Census Bureau began tracking this series in 1999.
