Location may still trump nearly every other factor during a prospective resident’s leasing decision, but in competitive markets, community amenities are increasingly part of the equation. As a result, apartment companies are dedicating more time, resources and square footage to their amenity programming.

“The bar’s being raised higher and higher on these communal amenities,” said Bill Greene, senior design manager, Central region, for Atlanta-based Wood Partners in a recent article in MFE.

But for as much as amenities can be a differentiating factor, there’s some consistency as to what residents want, according to data from NMHC/Kingsley Associates' resident preferences survey. Find out which amenities earned residents’ unswerving marks.
