PEGASUS Seeks Nominations of Government Engineers

Professional Engineer in Government Achievement and Service in the United States Award recognizes the registered professional engineer who has made the most outstanding contribution to the advancement and practice of engineering at the state, regional, county, special district, or municipal government level. The deadline for submission of nominations for the 2007 award is February 22.

FEYA to Honor Engineers

The Professional Engineers in Government administers the FEYA program. This honor will be awarded to an engineer employed by a federal agency that employs at least 50 engineers worldwide. Candidates are nominated by their employing federal agency.

The Federal Engineer of the Year is selected by a panel of judges established by NSPE-PEG who consider engineering achievements, education, continuing education, professional/technical society activities, NSPE membership, awards or honors, and civic and humanitarian activities.

The FEYA luncheon will take place at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on February 22, 2007. To order tickets to the luncheon download an order form beginning January 4, 2007.

Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day Finds a New Home

At the April board meeting, NSPE passed a budget that did not include funding for Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day. PEG members Mark Van Hala, P.E., F.NSPE, and Larry Emig, P.E., F.NSPE, who have championed this program from the beginning, have worked to find a new home for the Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day Web site.

The American Society of Civil Engineers' Transportation & Development Institute has agreed to take on the job. The Web address will remain the same. Although NSPE no longer is an official partner for Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day, some state societies and many individuals still support this worthwhile program at the grassroots level. Mark Van Hala continues to track the efforts of NSPE members. ASCE will be updating the Web site in the near future.

Every Day is a good opportunity to share the message and

Drive as if Your LIFE Depends On It!

PEG Seeks Sustaining Sponsors

Government engineers are facing ever-growing challenges managing public works projects and other government-funded engineering efforts within the constraints of quality and economy. That's why PEG is seeking to expand its efforts to help government engineers face these challenges by mobilizing a select group of agencies, companies, and individuals to provide support for its programs. This group is known as the PEG Sustaining Sponsors.

By becoming a PEG Sustaining Sponsor, you or your organization will enable PEG to

  • Create continuing professional development workshops and seminars for government engineers, and help registered engineers meet the CPD requirements of state registration boards;
  • Continue the Federal Engineer of the Year Award and the Management Fellow Scholarship Program;
  • Promote partnerships with government agencies and engineering technical societies;
  • Facilitate the development of more and better products and services for government engineers;
  • Support the development of programs to increase the awareness and visibility of the achievements of government engineers; and
  • Expand programs to help government engineers and their employers deal with the pressures of career mobility, rapid technological change, and ethical responsibilities.
