Industry Secrets Revealed On Keeping Flowers Fresh
You sent Valentine's Day flowers and they are home looking great.  Now what?  A few tips can prolong the life of your fresh cut flowers.

Arrangements:  Normally you would not change the water until 5 or 6 days.  If the water looks cloudy or dirty the water should be changed immediately.  As your flowers drink the water in the vase the water level will recede.  Be sure to watch the water level and add as needed.  Also you should add fresh flower food at that time.

Boxed:  Open your boxed roses and prepare them to go into your favorite vase.

Water:  The water that you use in the should be warm .  Fresh flowers tend to take up warm water faster and also it is easier to dissolve the flower food.

To leaf or not to leaf?  Leaves that fall under the water line should be removed.  Leaves in the water will promote bacterial growth and limit water uptake by the flowers.  Also as the leaves break down the water will start to smell.

Remove water tubes:  Remove the tubes and re-cut the stems using a sharp knife or scissors.  Be sure to cut an inch or two off the stems.  Be careful not to crush the stems in the process.

Display:  Display your flowers and be proud of  your arranging skills.  Place the vase out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources or drafts.

Enjoy your gift!
